Good read.

“Bird [Burton] gave me a call the night before I went in to have the operation and I asked him what advice he had for me," Otten said on Thursday. "He sent me an email of the 12-month plan he went through and he’s going to go through that with me.

“Brett came back in such good physical condition. He’s the benchmark for what I want to achieve and Brodie is going through it now, so he can help me out too.

That is interesting. You have a couple of options there at least.
I didnt think Otten was going to be able to play midfeild next year. Im not sure if his endurance was up that high yet:confused:

Any ways, like I already said, hopefully he gets back soon. :thumbsu:

Otten is a midfielder - we were just lucky (and he's good enough) that he could slot into the defensive 6 so easily and perform so well.

PS - Good article, he really does always come across as a great lad.

so with Otto down does Michael Coad come in to play for next weeks rookie draft
If he's available at our pick then we will pounce on him but I will be surprised if he slips past the Gold Coast's first 5 picks:mad:.

pretty high spirits all things considering!

lots of fifa, movies, time off work......makes me wonna snap my knee......

Was going to play midfield last year, its just when the other options struggled early last year, we threw him into the defensive role and he excelled. As an indication of his endurance, Andy often received more than 95% of gametime throughout the year as a hard running defender. If there were any worries about his endurance, this simply wouldn't have occured.

It is a good read... geez, I still feel awful for him though :(

Keeping Burton on the list is worth it just to handhold Otten through this process. Brilliant to hear that Burton has sent him his 12 month plan :thumbsu:

i sent him a letter a while ago for an english assessment task for school and i officially got a letter back from him today, he did apoligize though as he was on holidays and didnt get it til late november, i asked him some questions mainly about recovering from injury which he answered. he did mention if brodie and otten did all the right things they could come back just as strong as he did and the key to succeeding is setting goals, believing in yourself and never giving up, and always thinking 'i can do it' he also mentioned he became more confident in going up for marks and making the most of it. but ill post the questions and answers when i can be bothered :)

That's pretty cool :thumbsu: Kudos to him for replying to you!

just interested to hear thoughts, with your season improving, but to date hasnt gone to plan, do you think Otten could have improved your side this year if he was available? I was a big fan, has his limitations but unlike most, he knows them and plays within them. Real smart player. Early you had tyson edwards, mcleoud, goodwin all going through the midfield the older guys, would andy have been making a difference in there with some youth? but youve seem to have found a perfect replacement for his 3rd role in davis. just wondering looking back now how much effect his injury has had this season.

I think Otten was always keeping the spot warm for Davis in the back. When he eventually comes back next year, he will most likely be played in the midfield. In regards to effects on the current season, his injury was early on in the pre season, so there was time to adjust, but I reckon he would of had a huge contribution to the run in the midfield, especially earlier on in the season where a stop, start approach was taken.

But it's pointless thinking of the what ifs, what if Otten didn't injure himself and players like Sloane or Armstrong didn't have the opportunity. Can't wait to see him back on the field next season, our midfield is shaping up quite nicely :)

HUGE loss. His reading of the play and ability to work in traffic was tremendous last year.

He was looking like one of those steals in as much as he should have been top ten in the draft.

God I hope his knee fixes ok.

He is different to Davis but a much better player.

On this note I have very high hopes for Martin if he can get over his injury.

We have sorely missed what he was, not could've, but -was- going to add to our midfield this year. A deceptively quick and intelligent footballer with terrific hands, excellent ball winning ability, a young midfielder of his class ready to slot in and do the job; given the decline in Edwards this year there is no doubt his absence has been felt. That midfield rotation will be much stronger for his hopeful inclusion in 2011.
