ive always advocated you load up with needs on the assumption that any player you take may fail. ie kpfs take 5 or 6 over a two 3 yr period if 3 fail you still have 3 left.at richmond it seems we need two so we only take two.if both fail in two three yrs time you are back to square one.

This post is Golden . I thought we recruited Derrickx last year.
 
Gotta say I really don't like Graham. Probably my least favourite player in the side, as others have mentioned he comes across as a 'doofus' with some silly decision making and general bad positioning...etc, similar to Simon Taylor although not that bad.

I'll cut him some slack because he is still a young developing player and he could still have a good career, but in the meantime I think we should give someone else a go (Browne/Derrickx), if anything just to see if they are better. We don't have much to lose by trying a couple of other ruckman.
 
To be honest, when we start feeling salary cap pressure over the next few years I hope it's because we're paying the bulk of it to our elite running brigade and Jack and not to a top dollar ruckman.

As long as he keeps developing his game, an "honest trier" like Gus will do me.
 
24 year old ruckman playing reasonably well, still with plenty to learn and learnig from one of the best in the business, in lade. give him a break, if in another year or two hes not performing then some of this criticism may be warranted.

Goosey is a star! he is always putting in 100% not to mention he spends 95% of the time in the ruck.

-He runs all day!
-Constantly making space for other players
-blocking
-spoiling
-marking
-good tackles
-doesn't go to ground often when tackled
-kicking goals
-thumping kicks inside 50
-gets lots of hitout(besides against goliath)

HE is still young and is only getting the experience now when he should of had it when wallace was around.

I'm all for gus!!
 
I think we can give our Ruck boys a go.

We have Graham working hard, Vickery with plenty of potential , Derrix has shown a bit as well IMO.


Had a look GC Rucks with world beater Smith, Nicholls showing a lot , Rory Thompson looking likey as well as Gorringe and that is not including Tom lynch. They will have to trade some of these in the next few years or so

So unless a Ruck pops up in this 2011 draft that is exceptional value, and i mean exceptional, we can hold off getting more Rucks this year, give our boys a go and see what happens.

Behind only Jackson at Richmond and is 17th overall in league, next best ruckman is Mumford at 33rd and they are the only two in top 50. Whilst big Gus doesn't dominate tap outs, and at times can look a bit lazy around the field he actually tries his guts out. Has been vital in all of our wins for his grunt work

Actually looking at most stats so far guys like king, cotchin, Martin , Vickery have all kicked around or more goals than they did the whole of last year.

Asked who would end up being number one ruck out of him and Vik, he said most rucks don’t mature until mid 20`s and sometimes in the late 20`s and we also have Browne and big Tom. So it was interesting he wouldn’t commit.

Also asked by Caro how its good he can kick goals, and he replied that he is actually second to Tucky with goal kicking accuracy at the club. That surprised and im not sure if that’s from AFL stats or internal Tiger kpi

Other thing I found interesting is he said last year he was more Ruck/Stoppage coach and this year is more Midfield with a “small” involvement in the ruck?

So who is doing the bulk of our Ruck coaching ???
 
I've been a massive defender of Gus, but after what I've seen today he's a massive squib, I think it's time to give Derickx a run and see what he has, Gus will get destroyed by Hille, Ryder and Bellchambers.

Spot on the money there. Angus Graham is bewildering and the Coaching more so.

From the opeining bounce Goose looked staright at Hudson at every bounce. No wonder Hudson dacked him - he wasn't even going for the ball.

If Graham can't beat or at least compete with Hudson there is no spot for him in AFL. He is bordeline ******ed.

As for Houli - well no top teams carry outside runners that are no competitive in contested situations. He carries a handbag and would be lucky to win a 1 on 1 against a 14 year old.
 
Ahhhhhhhh thought Houli was good? Eggs on your faces, it will only get worse from here. The bubble has burst. We are not a top 8 side as expected. Time drop the trash in Graham and Houli and the like and bring in some players worthy of a spot.

While Miller played well he isn't part of the future. Bring in Post for him, Miller is not depth on ability but HAS to be for us going forward.

Wasn't good today, but surely Browne gets rewarded for a good month of football before Derickx. I haven't read any reports from the 2's today though.

At the start of the year I thought adequate progress would be finishing outside of the bottom 4. We are still well on track for that. Not all of us got carried away with one good win

Browne and Graham are basically the same type of Ruck, we need a mobile Ruck to be able to compete around the grounds, IMO the combo of Derickx and Vickery could be a very good one, as the mobility and agility of both could worry other teams.

Its not so much getting carried away but so many of us are just so sick of these modest expectations that we want to build some momentum and end up somewhere that belies where our list is.

This inch by inch progression thing is maybe reality but its bloody painful.

Really flat after today.
 
Graham is pathetic.......PATHETIC!

His ruckwork is horrible. HE WASN'T EVEN GOING FOR THE BALL TODAY....HE JUST KEPT RUNNIGN STRAIGHT AT HUDSON

It's not like Hudson is a huge ruckman or a superstar...Graham should have won the taps today. Instead he got F***** dominated and gave our mids no chance....Alot of the time he didn't even put his bloody hand up in the centre. Even when he did win a tap alot of the time he put it to the advantage of the dogs.

Not to mention he offers nothing absolutely NOTHING around the ground.

He is rubbish and we are going no where while he is our number 1 ruck. Our mids start behind whenever he is in the middle.

No coincidence that we looked alot better when Vickery was in the middle. Have to wonder why when Vickery went in the middle won the contest then ran forward and marked and goaled was he moved out of the middle....poor coaching.

TRUTH is, we were damn sluggish in the first quarter last week too, but Freo kicked ultra-poorly. Could easily have been blown away like today. was only a matter of time before a team got its kicking boots on.
I'm not getting carried away. I maintain we're a 10th to 13th placed team and that's about where we'll end up!
