Angwin on burglary charge
By MARK BUTTLER
15aug03

CARLTON footballer Laurence Angwin has been slapped with another burglary charge.

This time the alleged victim is a teammate.
The beanpole ruckman, 20, has been charged with breaking into and stealinggoods from fellow Blue Karl Norman's Brunswick home.

Brunswick CIU detectives charged the 200cm Angwin, of Frankston, last week.

Angwin and Norman, another of Carlton's young players, are believed to have shared a house this season.

The fresh charge has come during a wretched run for Angwin.

On July 23, he appeared in Frankston Magistrates' Court charged with two counts each of burglary and theft.

He was accused of stealing goods valued at $540 from a Chelsea house and of taking $113 from the AFL store in Frankston.

Angwin also faced a count of failing to answer bail.

A groin injury has ruled him out of recent matches just as he appeared to be finding some form after failing to play a senior game with the Adelaide Crows.

Now, there could be additional strain over an allegation of theft from a clubmate.

Carlton Football Club spokesman Ian Coutts would not comment on the charges or about Angwin's future at Optus Oval.

"We're aware of some issues we have to work with Laurence with and we'll continue to do so," Mr Coutts said. "We're working with him."

Hi Em

What a bloody idiot. Now he is stealing from his fellow team mates! He should be locked up - he is nothing but a menace to society - thank goodness he isn't in Adelaide anymore. Delisting by Carlton is on the cards surely, but then I saw them yesterday and they are one hell of a rable, they might need him!

I must of been oblivious to the fact that this fella was a thief, unbelievable, but i agree with carlton though that they need to help him and not turf him.

The guy obviously has serious problems which is really sad. He needs help as this behaviour is not acceptable.

After he's delisted the judge should give him an ironic punishment:

I sentence you to a 1 year suspended sentence and 200 hours community service - these 200 hours must be served playing Hamburglar in McDonald's commericials.

Maybe not....

Its an astonishinlgy sad situation

A kid with such talent adn from what I have read a reasonable home life has resorted to theft

It surely can't be for financial reasons and is as Ratten described it "a disease"

He needs help but sadly I think his AFL career could now be over.

Sentenced him to 2 yrs playing for carlton

The sad thing in a way is that he's had far more "second chances" than most kids would, all because he's a 6 foot 6 athlete. I hope that he can pull his life together.
