Ankle surgery for Knobel

RICHMOND coach Terry Wallace says injured ruckman Trent Knobel could undergo exploratory surgery on his ankle in the next 48 hours. The former Saint and Lion only managed three games in an injury ravaged 2006 season. "We’re not sure if there’s any floating pieces in his ankle or it’s just something that’s been aggravated over a period of time,” Wallace said. “They’ll go in and have a look, so we’ll know more after that being done. It’s disappointing though, because we picked him up as a player that would be able to play while we were waiting on our younger boys to take the step, but he’s had this residual ankle injury which looks likely to be very much ongoing.” Knobel isn’t Wallace’s only big man injury concern. He believes number one ruckman Troy Simmonds will also miss Friday night’s clash with Collingwood. “We haven’t trained yet. We’ll train this evening and on Thursday and we’ll give him every opportunity to come up. I still think he’ll be out for one more week. I’m hoping I’ll be proved wrong,” Wallace said. “With Trent Knobel and Troy Simmonds out it’s been very awkward. Probably our next line of call would be Ray Hall and he’s out too. It’s made life difficult for our guys around the middle of the ground but they just have to keep competing.” Wallace insists he won’t be tempted into starting Simmonds unless he’s fully fit. “He’s a player that’s really important for the future of our footy club. It’s a secondary injury that he’s had to an ankle that was operated on from his time at Melbourne, so you can’t afford to be risking anything that’s going to impact him long term. “I’ve never believed you can play blokes underdone anyway. He needs to be fully fit to come back.” Another of Richmond's long list of injured players, Nathan Brown is also doubtful to play Round 3. Brown is still suffering the effects of what Wallace has previously described as a “hot spot” on the leg which he broke in round 10 2005. “He will train later in the week but we’re not going to throw him out there if he’s got any residual pain at all.”

Looks like we are going into Fridays match without Simmo or Browny.
Gonna make it rather tough.....
