The number 1 issue I have with this guy is his lack of ability to produce the captains knock when we need him most. A brilliant downhill skier but prone to choking on his own tongue at the crease.

If you cannot show leadership at the crease when the team needs you most how are you to inspire others around you to excell beyond expectation?

This is a guy who is in his prime and has been choking in situations like these worse than he did early in his career.

I am seriously concerned at the prospect of a captain that i have no faith in to save the day when the team needs him most.

Ponting may be worthy of this exact criticism of late. I do not believe he will stay at 3 much longer barring a Hussey like turnaround. For now im expressing concern at the future leadership in Australian cricket

Another captain's knock from Ponting..

They're both as bad as each other.

One has 12,000 Test runs.

The other has 12,000 followers on Twitter.

I'll cut Ponting some slack - he's done it when it matters enough times for mine.

Spot on. Not attractive of late but Punter has shown time and time again he can do it.

Any other player would have been dropped a long time ago, but Clarke's 80 in the last Test will guarantee him another 12 months in the job - he is our next captain, after all.

He will only be dropped when another NSW player is put forward - from Sydney Grade cricket, no doubt ...

he is averaging 48 as a test batsman and has rarely had a real form slump before this for the last 3 years

Michael Clarke has been very disappointing since moving to no.4. He is certainly no Damien Martyn or Mark Waugh.

He should regain some form but I don't have a lot of confidence in him at the moment.

As for Ponting, he should be batting at either no.5 or no.6. His reflexes are a lot slower and he is unsure of where his off-stump is at the moment. He has been a champion batsmen but his days are well behind him.

Averaging 20 at #4. He shouldn't be #4 in the Test team.

Averaging 21 in T20 with 103 S/R. He shouldn't be captain of the T20 team.

These things are as clear as day. I wouldn't drop him from the Test team though.

probably some underlying issues, maybe bingle gave him the clap or something?

disappointing but am happy enough to see how he goes for the rest of the series before calling for his head. needs to perform though.

Rest assured Clarke will make runs against Bangladesh and other minnows but will continue to let us down when it matters as we have seen once again today. :thumbsd:

Cant believe he is being talked about as our next Test Captain and if Clarke is the only choice we have to give the captaincy to then we are in a world of hurt. :(

The bloke has a heart the size of a pea.
Agreed much like that other New South Wales pretender Hughes! Thank god for the West Aussie Mike Hussey in this Ashes series i say otherwise this would be 78/79 all over again!

I've been a staunch supporter of Clarke ever since he started his Test career, but I have to admit I'm starting to lose faith. I will never forgive him for getting out to Pietersen before stumps in Adelaide, it displayed a total lack of leadership. He doesn't seem to have been much chop since he gave his bimbo the lemon 'n' sars.

Paine Captain, Fergsuon Vice Captain of the PM's XI next month, could be a good audition if CA finally does what it should have a long time ago, and give Hilditch and co the er... lemon 'n' sars. Colourful.

Aside from that, there's not much else to choose from in the current lineup - Watson is already opening the batting and our second best bowler, give him the captaincy and you might as well throw him the keepers gloves for the overs he isn't bowling as well, Katich and Hussey are in the twilight, the middle order is a shambles and the bowlers rotate faster than a kebab pole.

I won't cut either of them slack - they're both horribly out of form and shouldn't be in the team right now, let alone in the crucial #3 and 4 spots.

Exactly.

If they spend less time in stupid sponsors commercials and actually focus on cricket............

Easy on he is from NSW:rolleyes:

Ask yourself if you would want this guy as the captain of the team you would want to play test cricket for? I wouldn't!

If you we're a father of a kid embarking on an A grade cricket career, would you want him to play under a captain like clarke. I wouldn't!

He's too much a pretty boy, flashy & without substance or solid down to earth Aussie Shiit. Ponting not much better.

There in IMO, lies the demise of this test team. Bad leadership, without a fatherly &/or Manly type onfield leadership.

Warne, even with his indiscretions would give a better direction & unity, to this group, than whats happening Now.
Warne as a Captain & tactician & Slip fieldsman & Part time bowler.
