ANOTHER close win.

Well, I don't know about you guys, but I want you to work out how many "less than a goal" losses you have been to. Not watched on TV, but actually been at the match.

Since 1990, we have played 35 home and away matches where the margin has been less than a goal, and we have lost only 4.

Of those home and away matches here in Victoria, we have lost only 1 of 32. Yes ONE out of 32 (against Collingwood in '91) in Victoria. The other 31, we have either drawn or won.

I don't know how it's possible to play 32 "less than goal" H&A matches at home and only lose one, but we have done that. Do you think it's just luck, or are we legitimately good in the close ones?

I'm staggered at home many close ones we have won over the years. Pity our finals record in such matches under Sheedy is 0-5.

Ahhh...not many...if any...

how much did we beat Collingwood by Anzac Day 2001? 8 points? Nope, all the games I've been to have not been within a goal. Oh, except for the Bulldogs draw this year.

No, it doesn't make us look suspect at all.

The losses to Brisbane and Sydney were against superior opponents on the road. It was remarkable we got to one point. It wasn't as if there were glaring errors in the last 10 seconds of any of those three matches. We were simply unlucky, and with a bit of fortune could have won all three.

Just because a team loses, doesn't mean they are suspect under pressure. If it's close, someone has to lose.

In the case of the Sydney one, which I was at:
Sydney were minor premiers, won their first final and were at home. We finished 6th, lost our first final, got a lucky break with the MCG contract and won our second final. Essendon had to travel to Sydney, and the Swans were in the middle of a 20-game unbeaten run at the SCG. Matthew Lloyd got severely injured and had to be hospitalised.
We should have been flogged. It showed a lot of fighting spirit for the Bombers to get as close as we did that night.

It's all very well analysing that Sydney game, but if we win ALL or nearly all close roster games, and lose ALL or nearly all close finals games, there are only two possible explanations - we are suspect in finals or coincidence. I guess you guys are going with the coincidence theory.
