Another top 100

Sitting at 2 and 3 are Pet Sounds and London Calling - two of the most over rated albums in history.

Generally the list is pretty good, but Kate Bush at 17? wtf?

Exile at 46 is a bit strange as well. usually makes top 5 in most lists.

I just counted, i have 30 of those albums. There's probably another 10 or so that I have owned at various times. No need to upgrade Bat out of Hell from vinyl to cd.

I don't know of they should be 2 and 3 but to call them over rated is wrong.

No Ween again.

Pet Sounds is nowhere near Exile, Led Zeppelin IV, Harvest etc.

Interesting the absence of pearl jam's 10. Would have thought they'd edge out Joni Mitchell or Kate Bush.

Also noticed they had Metallica's Kill Em All and not Master of Puppets.

The Top 10 is:

10. Radiohead – OK Computer
09. Talking Heads – Remain in Light
08. The Beatles – Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band
07. Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon
06. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band – Born to Run
05. The Velvet Underground & Nico – The Velvet Underground & Nico
04. Michael Jackson – Thriller
03. The Clash – London Calling
02. The Beach Boys – Pet Sounds
01. The Beatles – Abbey Road

I think David Byrne and The Velvet Underground have definitely been elevated to increase "cred" - There's no way that those albums beat out everything the Rolling Stones, The Who, Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin ever released.

Nirvana's Nevermind is criminally low in that list as well, coming in at #32.

Happy to see The Stooges - Raw Power on the list - It's one of my favourite albums.

I'm listening to London Calling as we speak. Over rated.

Pets Sounds. meh.
They're not overrated - You just don't like them.

There's a difference. Overrated implies that they are rated highly by many despite nobody actually liking them, or rated for reasons other than their musical quality.

I am not a fan of Pink Floyd's at all, but that doesn't make Dark Side of the Moon overrated - It just means I don't like it.

Not a huge fan of OK Computer either, but same deal - I can recognise that it's a great album that I just happen not to be a huge fan of.

I will fist fight anyone who suggests that Arcade Fire or Green Day have ever released anything as good as 10, and they both made it in, so yeah, pretty monumental error.

IMO:

London Calling >>>>>>>>> Thriller.

But why did I choose to pick on something I like way better than Thriller?

Answer: I dislike Thriller a lot but recognise it's a great album with no filler. I don't like it personally, but it deserves it status. London Calling is good but over rated.

Spare me the lecture you arrogant twat.

I just went through the list again and thought the exact same thing. Neither of the albums should be anywhere near.

That's a little uncalled for...
Well you sort of didn't think your comment through and accuse me of being very narrow minde. As I said, I like the album but thinks it's massively over rated. I dislike MJ a lot but acknowledge Thriller as an all time great.

the powderfinger joke is wearing thin. On the brighter side, you have yet to find any new material. My musical taste must be quite good in your books.

let's just stay with the Powderfinger joke.

Don't know about LC but I agree on PS. I can understand some people may be fond of it but 2nd best ever? God Only Knows is a classic and Wouldn't It Be Nice a good pop song but the rest is pretty meh.

To me Pet Sounds is like A Clockwork Orange.

People feel obligated to put these at the top of their lists. Pet Sounds is dining out on false reputation.

The f***-heads from Mojo and Rolling Stone who keep putting this in their top 10 need to wake up to themselves.

It's a bit hard to really critique your taste when the majority of the bands you listen to are safe, mainstream rock bands.

Of course your cred does go out a bit when you regularly listen to Powderfinger.
