Hello after gathering heaps of info on xbox i am like 1 week away from getting it, but i need to know a few final things, with a xbox that has a modchip can you still play on live? can they detect you and get banned? or can you like turn off your modchip like holding the button for a few seconds or something (like ps2) then go online? if i do that i should be alright as long as my game is original yeah? or can you play backups online? or is there a special way to play backups online like i know with ps2 you can

And finally with the new xbox360 will a modchip increase risk of damage?

You just sold your PS2 mate, maybe you should buy a couple of games?

Mate don't get the mod chip it is not worth it. With the amount of system updates from MS the chip will be void all your online play.

Enjoy your buy!

If you want cheap games, get a PS3 - you cna pick almost every game up for $50 a piece, even brand new. You'll get some awesome titles for $20 brand new as well.

Also, Playstation online service is superior to XBL now anyway - and its free.

You sound budget focused, so I'd go the PS3 route. Much cheaper after the initial purchase. Gamea re about half the cost, and the PSN is free.
Plus that modchip for the 360 voids your warranty for when your Xbox freezes or RROD's - so you will end up having to buy a second 360 eventually anyway, and possibly a third. Depends how fast a learner you are.

This is the same for 360 games, except they actually are awesome, PS3 games are overwhelmingly bad.

You get what you pay for in this case - and no one would bother with the PSN if they charged for it :thumbsd:

personally if you want to go that route, I would buy 2 xboxes and keep them separate, have a 360 Live version which is legit and you play you live games on, and then have your flashed/modded 360 which you can play your backup games on.

Live and XBox 360 modded consoles do not go together, I believe there is no fireware/modchip that will not be detected by XBox live. You might last a few weeks, but you will be banned eventually... So there you go.

that's actually a pretty good suggestion.

lol your stupidity is overwhelming.

psn is the biggest load of shit going around, thank god it is free as no one would pay for that garbage.

Not sure what XBL is like but I've never had a problem with PSN

give me an example. I think you're talking shit.

Let's take a look at the awesome in-game xmb that sony's taken TWENTY MONTHS or so to perfect:

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008...mware-v240-faq/

quote:

Will voice-messaging/private chat be featured in 2.40 as well? If not, can we expect to see this feature added in the future?

We are evaluating the opportunity to offer voice chat, but for this update, we wanted to focus on text messaging as the key priority for communications that our users have asked for.
NO VOICE CHAT... OR EVEN VOICE MESSAGING!!! AFTER A YEAR AND A HALF!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

quote:

Will we be able to stream music (either via media server or USB drive) for custom soundtracks or is it relegated to music stored on the HDD?

Currently only music stored on the HDD is accessible in games that support this feature. We’d also like to reiterate that Firmware v2.40 merely enables custom soundtracks. It’s up to developers to include this feature in upcoming games (or to patch existing ones).
oh man, not only are custom soundtracks still not a system-wide feature, even if a developer DOES decide to implement them you have to actually copy all the mp3s you want to listen to over to your ps3, instead of just streaming them like the 360's been capable of in any game ever since launch.

oh well, they ____ed up voice chat, voice messaging, and custom soundtracks... surely they at least got cross-game invites finally working, right?

quote:

Does 2.4 enable cross game invites? Will it down the line?

No, cross-game invites are not available in this system software update. We are evaluating opportunities to expand on the new features delivered in 2.40.
hoooooooly shit. i'm seriously at a loss for words here. it's like sony was actually trying to make this entire thing worthless. i mean they did have those shirts months ago saying "in-shirt xmb" that led to absolutely nothing... and after over a year and a half of waiting this is what they give their customers?

hey, there is some good news though sdf morons... firmware update 2.40 has been confirmed to also include the highly original and innovative trophy system... where actions you complete in ps3 games earn you "trophies" which contribute to an overall "score for gamers" associated with your psn account. and thanks to sony's continued incompetence, you'll finally have an excuse to play through hit ps3 exclusives like lair and heavenly sword all over again:

quote:

Will the patch automatically allocate unlocked trophies according to your saved files or would you have to do it again?

No, Trophies aren’t retroactive.
So there you have it folks. since the 360 launched over two and a half years ago its users have been able to voice chat and send voice messages no matter what they're doing, listen to whatever music they want in any game, and invite anyone on their friends list in any game to any other game... all through a well thought-out and system-wide interface. and now, after over a year and a half of waiting, ps3 owners can still do absolutely none of that. THIS IS LIVING.

It's pretty funny when someone demands proof for an argument, but never provides any of their own.

Exactly. I don't see the point of even arguing with Karl.

We are allowed to have our own opinion, as long as it falls in line with his.

Why would I bother stating my reasons why I prefer Live when Karl will just refute them anyway?

Fk you, it's my opinion, you have yours

I prefer live....you prefer PSN

I'm not asking for proof. I'm just asking what features he's referring to. Surely that isn't asking for too much? I've stated why I think the PSN is better than XBL (they have largely the same exact features but PSN is free).

It's not rocket science.

And yet, XBL Dashboard can't be accessed in game at ALL. So the PS3 in-game XMB might not be perfect, say it's 75% of what would be ideal.

It's definitely better than the 0% of in-game XBL Dashboard that can be accessed.

And PSN is FREE.

Hmm, that's strange....I seem to remember sending text messages, voice chat invites, game invites, voice messages to people on my friends list whilst in the middle of a game of COD4.....strange that

Through the Dashboard? I think you might be getting confused as to what XMB stands for.

XMB is the X-Menu bar. Which can be accessed within any game on the PS3. the XBL Dashboard can not be accessed AT ALL.

apples to apples.

........? I know you are frequently loose with the truth, but this is a little blatant isn't it?
