Kouta is one of the best matchwinners i've ever seen, with Ablett, Carey, Matera, Jarman, Voss and Hird (off the top of my head).

Hird has sustained his brilliance over a longer period of time i think, and been regarded as a champion since 96 while Kouta took until maybe very late 99, but definately 2000 i think to be regarded in the same way.

Pity we've missed seeing both of them during a lot of their prime years.

Kouta without a doubt!

This guy has opened up a new error in Australian Rule Football, with his one handed pickups from the ground and etc.

I remember when Ablett was around at school i always use to go'ABLETTTTTTTTTTTT', THE NEXT GENERATION WILL BE GOING 'KKKKKKKKKKKOOOOOOOOOOOUTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAA'.

Kouta is all class and in my opinion he has still got more to show than season 1999-2001

Pity that he'll be 31 at the start of next season, and with dodgey knees.

The next generation won't be shouting "ABLETT!" but they won't be shouting "KOUTA!" either.

Age does not matter on your performance, its what you got inside. So dont go saying that Kouta is 31 next year and he'll be crap because i think that is bull****!!!

Mate, age definitely matters. That's why we don't see 50 year olds going in for the hardball. A person's body can only take so much.

Craig Bradley never won a hardball in his life. Nevertheless, he's an exception.

Ratten and McKay are both around 32, I think. However, this year was certainly not Ratten's or McKay's best.

Based on hardness Hird win hands down the way he goes after it. Unless ur talking about strength over the ball?

Hird, Norm Smith medallist in arguably the greatest premiership side ever.

I'll bet you $100 that his Norm Smith game was not as good as Kouta's game in 1995 - where he was only beaten by Greg Williams.

And I'm not talking about one game - it has no relevance whether you played in the greatest premiership team or not. I'm taking ALL finals games into account, and if you do, you will see that Koutoufides beats Hird there.

I think the games where Hird has gone missing he has been injured. No excuse of course, but I think he's been unlucky in that respect. When he's been fit, he's shown that he is a great finals performer.

This is sort of like comparing Sunline with Northerly. Sure Sunline won more and had the longer more distinguished career, but both at their best I know which horse I'd prefer to have my dough on.

HARDNESS !!!

From what rock did you suddenly crawl out from under !!!!

You idiot !!!!

Hird is one of the hardest players going around ... he NEVER shirks the issue and let's see you come back 7 weeks after having your entire facial bones re-constructed !!!

* Goes off to find a bigger rock*

I agree it's not hardness, Hird's got big balls. I think it's agility that seperated them, only marginally though. Jeez with the top players it's only a whisker between them all anyway, anyone says Voss is clearly better than Buckley is dreaming, likewise with Hird Kouta or McLeod, all very close. I'd prefer Kouta in his prime only because he was so versatile, played taller than any of the others but was also equal to any of them in getting the inside hard ball.
