struggled to find one ****ing positive out of tonights game other than waites effort on riedwoldt...
hampson looked o.k. in patches, and eddies goal brought a smile but wouldnt really call them positives...
it is so obvious that juddy, stevens aren't even close to 70% right and fevola to a lesser extent...obviously not their faults but just so frustrating...
and gibbs got a lot of it but shithouse disposal, i counted 2 out on the full kicks under no pressure whatsoever and 3 kicks straight to opposition, and other than that his kicks were 15m chips going sideways...i know he'll come good but again just frustrating...
fevola is a ticking time bomb its only a matter of time until he mucks up again, his body language at times is deplorable.
i'm sick of being patient for ****s sake!!!

Other positives

1/ Setanta - IS improving and when he gets some more weight back will improve more. I think he showed tonight that playing as a back is his go.

2/ Bower - Improving with every outing, not getting caught much with the ball as he picks up the pace at this level

3/ Murph - really continuing to develop

4/ Thornton was bloody good again - I dont understand all the bashing of this guy on BF

5/ Eddie presented well and was lively

I thought Bower improved on his decision making.
Murph again was great, cool as a cucumber as always.

Positives? Eddie kicking a beautiful banana in the dying minutes. It's a shame it was that point in the game it was a pearler.
I thought he did alright as well, even though he wasn't always up forward.

What excuse does Fev have? Apart from being double and triple teamed as usual?

Really good players learn how to deal with that attention and become better, all he ever seems to do is become more frustrated!

I thought Marc Murphy was terrific again tonight. The kid will be a superstar. Thought Gibbs also had a good game, and accumulated alot of posessions. Cloke battled all night, and Pfieffer provided some real grunt through the midfield.
yea that bout sums it up..thornton has started the season off well....
i think carazzo needs to go...as much as i dont want him to

I agree with this, but unlike you I also thought Bannister did a good job. So there were quite a few positives. But unfortunately mainly in the back line plus Murhphy

I didnt really like Gibb's game.......all little chip kicks.......a lot of meaningless touches.

I think BG likes to be in some traffic........the threat of being able to dish off by hand makes him more elusive. Think he is one of the few guys for us that actually reads it at the ruck contests.

Pfeiffer's goal - finally a player who has a shot from 50 instead of trying to pass it to Fev!

On the subject of Fev, I thought he tried hard all night, but deplorable delivery meant he couldn't get near it, hence he moved himself into the middle.

Other positives were Bower (starting to enjoy watching this guy play), Murph, Thornton, Cloke and that's about it.

Plenty of positives tonight I thought!

Carlton lost.

The majority of the deluded fans on this board have landed once again on earth after a 'big' off season

I'm wrapped we didn't get a crippled Judd (along with taking up 20% of our salary cap)...PHEW!

Gram & Fisher scored well in my supercoach team

We had many 'stars' at Coburg today...

All in all, a GREAT day/night for a Richmond supporter...:D:D:D

There were numerous positives to come out of tonight's game.

-Marc Murphy showing us that he's got exceptional skill and talent, and a very bright future. Was one of, if not our best player tonight.

-Bryce Gibbs. No longer looks like a young boy playing out of his depth. He's taller, stronger, but just as good a user of the ball. He is silky and will be a brilliant player in time.

-Jarrad Waite. He was FANTASTIC tonight. Pulled Riewoldt's pants down throughout the match until the last quarter where Riewoldt started to beat him. Provided run out of the back half but also stayed conscious enough of Riewoldt. Next step - consistency.

-Eddie Betts. Seems to get bagged from pillar to post a lot around here, but surely not on tonight's performance. When noone presented, we could count on him to provide an option. Never stopped leading, presenting and trying. Kicked a great goal.

-We didn't give up. It started to look ugly in the 3rd quarter but the boys didn't drop their heads. They kept trying and really stayed with the Saints in the last quarter, even though the Saints were well on top where it counts most.

-Although we were well beaten, we really didn't play THAT badly. Skills need work still, but there are some very encouraging signs. The Saints were just too strong, big and skillful for us on the night.

-Cameron Cloke. He's never going to be a star. But noone can fault his efforts when out on the park. He may be undersized, and not have the skill or finesse of other talls, but he gives it his all, and never gives up. Really enjoyed seeing him play out there tonight. Might not be on the list in a few years, but he's giving himself every opportunity if he keeps working like he is now. Hopefully the shoulder stays OK.

-Others showed promise. Bower continues to improve and impress, Pfeiffer had a good debut too.

-Judd, Stevens and Hadley got more game time into their legs meaning they're a little closer to full fitness :thumbsu:

Cloke was our best IMO.

Setanta has some serious flaws in his game... gets caught watching his opponent rather than the ball... when the ball's in the air it's not changing its course, at times he found himself looking at Gehrig rather than the ball, which cost a couple of goals.

Murphy, while good offensively was disgraceful defensively. Their midfielders, Hayes, Montagna, Ball etc were allowed to do as they liked.

Judd showed glimpses of his class, but I fear he's struggling with his groin.

Fevola bewilders me... tried his guts out tonight, but makes some very stupid decisions on where he leads. Often leads directly into traffic, and fails to anticipte his teammates movements up ahead... one instance Fisher had the ball on the HFF and was about to swing on to his natural right foot, Fev leads to Fisher's left side and is subsequently out of position. Happens frequently.

Waite was good... although we needed him to fill the gaping hole across half forward. We had no-one willing to present, just dumb, lazy, half-hearted efforts... Ratten should give them a solid bake after that pissweak effort.

fevola is a ticking time bomb its only a matter of time until he mucks up again, his body language at times is deplorable.

He never stopped chasing, and when you've got spare men to chase during their keepings-off practice he could be excused if he dropped off, but he never did. Had two players on him all night and kept trying. No complaints from me about the shag tonight.

Our other forwards didn't give a peep. That was the problem. We fell down at CHF, and our midfield fell back into the habit of kicking to the top of the square where there were sometimes three unmarked saints to rebound with it.

None of which is Fev's fault.

We also looked more composed while controlling the footy. In the past we've coughed it up with some stupid skill error, but when St Kilda played negative footy by flooding the forward line, we used the ball effectively to open up play.

did anyone see setanta push gehrig into the ball and basically gave him the chest mark........ i laughed....Positives KP defenders.....KP forwards only scored like 7 goals betweenthem...... jarrod waite...what a leap...hampsons goal was kool

Murph has never been in doubt, is an exceptional footballer, had he been playing for geelong he would already be being touted as a brownlow medallist. I have no doubt he will win one eventually, might not be til he's 32 tho when we finally start improving hehe.

Gibbs - Good user of the ball? Prior to tonight, yes. Tonight was a shocker tho, many poor decisions. Almost seemed cocky, either that or just unorganised. Will go on to be a great player though, I have no doubt.

Waite - Great game. Minus the usual flaire we're used to with him playing forward, but was one of the few who held up his end of the deal.

Betts - Missed this "great goal". But, he seems to lack that extra edge, maybe in a top 4 side he would look better, but he seems to continually tease with his potential and never really deliver. Pains me to say it but I can't see him becoming much more than an average goal sneek with our current set-up.

We did give up. St Kilda we're just off and took forever to tighten the noose.

We played VERY badly by current AFL standards and cant just keep realying on the old "skill errors cost us" excuse. Sooner or later these players need to step up and show why they were drafted!

Cloke gives his all and would be regarded as a lot better player than he is if he was supporting an a grade ruckman like a lot of other sides.

Judd was poorer performed than last week and never really seemed to work his way in to the match (why? hopefully because he's underdone and not cause he's carrying a long term injury!) Stevens use of the ball was pretty average, i really hope he is just underdone cause he has a lot of hype surrounding him too, hadley will be servicable once he gets a few more games.

i agree.

we shouldnt forget how bad the saints were at stages there kickig was horrible and we couldnt even score. terrible, they were nowhere near their best.

His poise and vision never cease to amaze me. Is still prone to kicking floaters but he's going to be an absolute beauty.

Gibbs - Good user of the ball? Prior to tonight, yes. Tonight was a shocker tho, many poor decisions. Almost seemed cocky, either that or just unorganised. Will go on to be a great player though, I have no doubt.

He wasn't using it that badly. He had a few bad kicks, but so did everyone. Most of his disposals were fine. Put his body on the line too which was encouraging.

Waite - Great game. Minus the usual flaire we're used to with him playing forward, but was one of the few who held up his end of the deal.

I guess that's the compromise of playing him down back. We miss his work across half forward which is where we seem to fall down time after time. What we'd give for 2 of him...

He probably wont be more than an average goal sneak, but he does a job and does it well. Played up the ground a fair bit tonight and provided an option but we can't rely on him to do it, he's our smallest player FFS. Was one of our best tonight IMO.
We did give up. St Kilda we're just off and took forever to tighten the noose.

We absolutely did not give up. We were outclassed, outplayed, outbodied, but we did NOT give up until the end. We kicked 6 goals in the last quarter showing that.

We played VERY badly by current AFL standards and cant just keep realying on the old "skill errors cost us" excuse. Sooner or later these players need to step up and show why they were drafted!

No, we didn't play that badly at all. St Kilda are a much better side and it showed. Our skills were bad at times, but that happens every game. It just didn't show as much as previous games. We're getting better, albeit slowly.

Cloke gives his all and would be regarded as a lot better player than he is if he was supporting an a grade ruckman like a lot of other sides.

Agreed. :thumbsu:

I thought Cloke was our best player tonight, including Waite. He would have won a fair few supporters tonight because of his continuous efforts.

He's underdone so it's no surprise that he was quiet. Stevens, Judd and Hadley are all underdone, and not fully fit and it's going to show. But we need to persevere with them as they will improve each week and provide great experience for our young side.

Gibbs - Good user of the ball? Prior to tonight, yes. Tonight was a shocker tho, many poor decisions. Almost seemed cocky, either that or just unorganised. Will go on to be a great player though, I have no doubt.

Gibbs recorded 85% efficiency in tonight's game. Can't ask much more than that from a 19 year old, particularly given he had the daunting task of playing on Harvey & clearly had the better of him.

Stevens, Judd and Hadley are all underdone, and not fully fit and it's going to show. But we need to persevere with them as they will improve each week and provide great experience for our young side.
While I can see the value in persisting with recovering players I also know there's only so many we can afford to carry.
