Carlton playing their next 5 games at Etihad when there is so much talk about the surface and the injuries that are coming out of games that have been played there?

I know that we have now turned that ground into a mini fortress of sorts and it suits our game style right down to the ground but I am scared stiff that we will lose some players to injury through playing 5 straight games there.

Things are really going so well for us and we are starting to get back on track with our injuries but this patch of games could really hurt us?

What do you guys think?

I'm off to touch as much wood as I can and no not that kinda wood you animals!

Go blues! :thumbsu:

I am worried, with the conditions at Jihad stadium I mean what if the roof gets jammed and it rains etc.

Most of the injuries are due to players putting the breaks off when they were going hard or when in the air landing awkward or someone smashing into a player.

At least the epidemic of hamstring tendon injuries seems to have eased...........thank God we limited the interchange rotations after round 6 or there could have been many more.

I've been playing local footy for years on horrible surfaces and I can't remember anyone being injured because of it, beyond some scraped knees. Always find it strange when people complain about the surface of an AFL venue.

The difference in pace of the game between a local footy match and an AFL match is enormous and would have a huge impact on injuries.

And the fact that Higgins landed on the side of his foot would have had nothing to do with his ankle injury either...

That surface shift was atrocious tho. .. It was like freshly laid lawn that hasn't knitted yet. .. The turf on the wings has always been an issue at Docklands, not sure they can fix it as its part of a design fault in the roof that causes those parts of the ground to lack sunlight. .. couple that with the concert damage always setting them back but there is no way they'll give up that cash cow. ..

Its more the inconsistency in the surface that causes issues. Some bits hard, others not so. What you can do in one area of the ground you can't in others and it just takes one minor stuff up (i.e. Higgins foot landing slightly off centre) and things can happen.

The occurrences are unlucky and are hardly at plague proportions, but i'd like to see how it can be improved. I have no qualms about the Blues playing there for the next month and a bit though.

I agree and the media has beat it up a little. .. but its about time they rectified that loose wing surface. .. The rest of the ground, seems fine. ..

Wasn't until you mentioned it

Probably not the right thread but in an ideal world I would prefer to play home games at the 'G as much as possible and have 2 games a year at Princes Park; one against a Port/Freo/Gold Coast and the other against a North/WB/Melbourne.

They'll look into the condition of the ground before this weekend....normally if something gets bagged enough, it will get fixed.

Nonetheless, playing 5 games under cover in mint conditions isnt bad at all this time of the year. We don't want anymore games in saturdays conditions, more chances of getting injuries in those games.

Sorry to burst your bubble but PP isnt a AFL ground anymore, especially with the new work there and the condition of other parts of the ground, plus what would its capacity be now? Not a great deal i would think.

Thank the gods someone else's player has gone down and not one of our own.

After (deservedly) being put on notice by the players association you can bet that Collo is personally digging up and replacing the offending patch in time for Friday night lest the AFL pull the game.

Maybe they can dig that hole deeper and throw whoever the spud didn't make the MCG our home turf.We maybe can water it as long as the water restrictions let us and have a Veggie garden for our players to eat mashed potatoes with carrots.:D

You do realise that Collins (Docklands Stadium boss) was part of the Carlton board that extended our contract with Docklands. .. Just like he was on the AFL board when the Docklands was commissioned and became the boss shortly after. .. ;)

I know someone made a fool of himself trusting the AFL to come easy with the club about the draft picks. This wouldn't have happen if Elliot stuck around he would have dragged the AFL to court and we would have won the battle.
