Tomorrow signals the start of the Australian Open Wildcard playoff at Melbourne Park. There are a number of players who could win it and take the wildcard. The mens side looks a bit stronger compared to the Women's side. The list of players are:

Men:

Carsten Ball
Pete Luczak
Brydan Klein
Joe Sirianni
Bernard Tomic
Samuel Groth
Robert Smeets
Matt Ebden
Greg Jones
Colin Ebelthite
Marinko Matosevic
John Millman
Mark Verryth
Brendan Mckenzie
Dane Propoggia
Dayne Kelly

Women:

Jelena Dokic
Jessica Moore
Monique Adamzcak
Sophie Ferguson
Emelynn Starr
Olivia Rogowska
Alison Bai
Marija Mirkovic
Shannon Golds
Anna Wishink
Brittany Sheed
Isabella Holland
Tyra Calderwood
Jade Hopper
Mia Vriens
Monica Wejnert

There are a number of players I have never heard of, particularly on the Women's side. The Men's draw looks decent and could be some good tennis, hopefully will get down there and see some of the action.

It is a great thing TA have done by introducing this concept. Instead of players getting a free ride into the AO, they actually have to work for it and it provides some match-play experience at Melbourne Park.

I think Dokic will win the Women's draw, with Jess Moore a strong chance also. Men's side is a lot more open and I think a number of players have a chance, mainly Luczak, Ball and Groth.

Monica Wejnert
She's a gun. Only 16 and just won a Perth $25K the other week beating some handy players. Definitely one to keep an eye out for.

I know nothing about her. But good to see her win that ITF title a few weeks back and with the win she moved her ranking to inside the top 550. :thumbsu:

Good fields for both men and women. I’d really like to see Dokic and Moore get wildcards on the women’s side. Dokic had a pretty good 2008 and is said to be in pretty good shape so lets hope she does well. As for the men, anyone but Smeets really. Hopefully Tomic or Klein can get it.

Dokic won her first match 6-3, 6-0! :thumbsu:

Tomic lost...But in his post match interview he sounded really upbeat, that's good. Given the press about him and his dad lately you would've been expecting a really grumpy young man but he handled it well. He knows he had his chances and there will be more oppertunities coming soon. :)

Popped over today and watched a couple of matches.

The good - Jelena Dokic looks fit, strong, determined and should clean up this field with ease and take the wildcard. Still only 25 amazingly and i'd be surprised if she isn't back in the top 100 early next year.

My girl Monica Wejnert won in straight sets which is good but as you can probably tell from the photo above she isn't the biggest girl. In fact, she is absolutely tiny and wouldn't look out of place in the crowd of a hi-5 concert. Unfortunately, her small build is probably going to hold her back

The bad - Jessica Moore. Awful, absolutely awful. I don't really rate her but wasn't expecting such an embarrassing performance. She moves around the court like Lindsay Davenport, plays timid defensive tennis refusing to be aggressive even when the opportunity presents itself, has an average serve and has no discernable tactics whatsoever. Just an allround dissapointing performance.

Great to hear! :thumbsu: I must say, she really does look in great shape and seems to be full of confidence. At her best she's miles better than anyone else in this field. I'm behind her 100% and really hope she can win.

She does look tiny, would she even be 5 foot? Hopefully she grows a bit more but that's unlikely for a 16 y/o girl. It's a pity because she does seem pretty talented and has beaten some quality players lately.

I almost had a heart attack thinking she lost in the 1st round of the AO play-off! Then I check the results and see she won in straight sets! :p But I believe you, and I know how bad she can look when she plays negative. She's much better when she's attacking but she often leaves it too late too attack.

Ummm... you may want to have another check of the results. She lost in straight sets to Brittany Sheed.

Monica Wejnert beat Dokic in 3 sets. That is a good result and just maybe she is a big hope for Australian tennis. Clearly, we need someone, and I don't think Jessica Moore is our hope. I wonder how Dokic played? I think she will still get through to the quarters, so all hope is not lost for her yet.

Jessica Moore loses again and is now out of the play-off.

Monika Wejnert remains undefeated going 3 from 3 and tops her group with Dokic coming second... both go through to the quarters. I'm still backing Dokic to win the tournamant, but she'll almost certainly receive a wildcard even if she doesn't... Moore will get one too.

The mens play-off is quite depressing in the sense that 34 year old journeyman Joe Sirianni is winning all his matches in straight sets. He or luczak will probably take the WC.

I hope Brydan Klein does not make it. If I remember correctly, it was last AO that he was always psycho and threw his racket into the net.

Bernard Tomic is also a w***er.

And I do not want Jelena Dokic to make it as she is a bitch.

Klein's already out, so is Tomic but he still may go through due to an injury to another player. Frankly i'd rather a psycho/w***er get the wildcard than a Smeets/Sirianni.

I hate all the psycho w***ers. They are a disgrace to the game. Whenever I am watching tennis on Fox or something, if I see someone chuck a fit, I immediately want the other person to win. If they are both bad, then whoever is less bad.

So basically you like robots and hate those with personalities.

I'm on the Wejnert bandwagon I must admit. Although I would've liked to see Rogowska beat her yesterday. Anyway TA really needs to give both girls Wildcards into the AO. They're good enough to win a match or 2 I reckon. - Dokic and Moore should get Wildcards as well.

I'm a bit disappointed in Tomic. Although he still has the Brisbane Internationals to make a statement.

Dokic and Wejnert final should be great tomorrow. I expect Dokic to win, but it has been an impressive week from Wejnert this week and maybe she will be our hope for the future in Australian Women's tennis.

I am glad that Sirianni lost in a way, he is not the future of Aus tennis and it is great that a couple of new guys are fighting for the wildcard spot. Ebelthite and Groth. Hopefully we get a fair crowd down there tomorrow to watch the 2 finals.

The 179th ranked Dokic won 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, 6-3 and she will now attempt to qualify for the Gold Coast and Hobart tournaments.

I watched the first set and a half of the Wejert/Dokic match. Wejnert is impressive. I see what people mean when they say she is tiny, she is very small. Her serve is weak and will need to improve. She hits the ball pretty flat and hard and generates good power off both wings. She will still get an AO wildcard and let's hope she gets a win or 2.

I say no chance Wejnert could make the 3rd round.

And no doubt the draw will be rigged and Dokic will have to play the #1 or #2 seed in the 1st round. Rigged I tell ya!

Judging by the look of her in she will be a fan favourite with the boys one would think, quite a striking looking girl.

Yeah but she talked weird. Maybe it was because of the camera filming and she was nervous but she... sounded weird. She'll get better with experience though hopefully.

Great work by Dokic. :thumbsu: But I tell you what, that sure is an impressive showing by Wejnert. Having beaten Dokic earlier in the week I thought when they met again it would be pretty one-sided in favour of Dokic but the youngster really stood tall and made her work for the win. I hear she had breaks in every set so she will feel disappointed not to have got the win. For someone I had never heard of until a few weeks ago, I certainly know who she is now.

You try doing media stuff at 16..it was probably nerves more than anything!:thumbsu:
