Twice on Saturday our players helped their opponents to their feet - undoubtedly a sign of respect. Do we want our players showing their opponents such courtesies or would you prefer a little more mongrel?

Yeah, saw Fev giving someone a hand up. Always room for sportsmanship in the game.

Don't mind it at all - as long as he's just smashed him into the dust! ;)

If, like the Fevola one where the contest was quickly kicked away from them and they weren't in play then it's fine and good sportsmanship.

If the contest is still there...get the ball first.

To me, mongrel rules if is pressure at the ball.

Nothing wrong with what Fev did, provided it is not excessive or poorly timed.

Good example is Marc Riccuito. Would scrap like mad for the ball and not hesitate to pulverise you. But he would be the first to offer you a hand up and you cant help but admire that.

They're not mutually exclusive - they can do both.

is a good thing, nothing worse than seeing players being unsportsmen like, remember nick maxwell going up to shake neitz's hand before his 300th and neitz pushed him away, i know personally i lost some respect for david that night

Hey, if you're able to bring someone to ground, then give them a hand up, you have the satisfaction of the player not being angry or fired up at you (potentially increasing their performance), AND you've just handed his ar*e to him:D.

It was good to see. After all, it's just a game.

Respect for Fev and CFC.

I reckon Ratten is having a positive effect on Carlton.

I started this, so I had better give an opinion. It is not a biggie but I would rather we didn't do it - you are 'helping' the opposition/letting him conserve a little energy while expending a little more yourself. I know - I am a mongrel and need to lighten up :)

One occasion was with Rutten who had just really hurt his back - I thought it was great - but have always liked Fev and don't mind the Blues - it's good sportsmanship and quite endearing, really...

Alright...i'll bite

I remember Nick Maxwell trying to take Mark Murphy's head off by running through, lifting his elbow and not even looking at the ball, like some wannabee tough guy.

I know I personally lost respect for Nick Maxwell that day. No hang on...I never respected him to begin with.

I never had respect for maxwell or neitz
they both have something in common
are both dirty hacks who are soft and will only hit someone under a pack or when they arent looking

Must admit I don't recall Neitz being that type of player. Maxwell on the other hand is a joke. Some drunken gypsy must have told him he's a hard man and he believed it. Deluded ________.

Exactly. He was always a pretty tough player - but ever since he was talked up as a potential captain last year (and I thought Lance was bad...), he's taken the tough guy act WAY overboard.
