dont get too ahead pegs had all the TAC players out

PEGS were missing 8 players, MGS missing 7.

Pretty even in terms of players missing.

ALso gotta consider MGS had shaw and keath having just played cricket the previous 2 days in 40 degree heat and having celerated the premiership very hard the previous night. More like MGS missing 9 players.

For the record, Hawkins grandfather is on the honors board at ACK and uncles on his mothers side went there. Could it be that he was enrolled at both but was offered a scholarship at MGS so went there, i wonder?

Schgood name, Peeves!

Doosh

Just thought you might wanna know, Jack Hawkins is CHF in Grammar's team of the century. He has been on the MGS council and was a borders' parents representative throughout Tom's time at MGS. He is MG through andthrough, and TOm was always gonna go to grammar, just like his uncles, dad and cousins. Had a cousin finish yr 12 last year, one is in yr 9 at the moment, and another cousin left MGS a year ago to GGS.

Hawkins family is MGS through and through. I doubt your evidence is correct on hawkins' family at Assumption, for they are a strong ANglican family (including both his fathers and mothers side). Couch Potato, don't start lies.

Just fr the record, the match between MGS and Xavs in 2006 saw carter, shaw and lapin all play as yr tens who are currently in yr 12.

MGS would have won it if it werent for the most disgraceful act in APS football histroy, with a xavier players cleaning up XAv Ellis behind play, taking him out for the game (ellis had had about 30 touches to that point which was barely into the 3rd qtr.)

and Josh Kennedy got sent off the ground to the chant of 'you are a w***er' :)

LOL, no it wasn't Josh Kennedy - he was busy collecting a truckload of stats in the centre. Not sure that anyone in your team actually noticed that he was tearing you to shreds.

Ellis got between the ball and one J.Rush. A foolish thing to do. Funny, most of the crowd were calling out Legend! Strange how we all remember things differently isn't it!

And why don't you give Assumption a call. Hawkins indeed had rellies go there.

it is common tradition to go to the school that your dad went to. for tom hawkins that was MGS. he wouldnt've gone to Assumption, just because he had some obscure family connections on his mothers side of the family.

Getting back on topic, I believe Xavier played St. Pats today in a practice game, and won, just wondering how the team went..? Who played well, who kicked the goals etc.

Just querying that match in the Xavier thread myself. Be interested in any feedback about both XC and/or SPC and how they played.

Think you'll find Rush, not Kennedy who got sent off.... As for that ridiculous comment about Grammar winning had Ellis not been cleaned up, they were at least 7 goals behind at that point and were only still in the game because Ellis was carrying them. Also remember Will Smith taking the Tomahawk to the cleaners that day.

I boarded at Xavier with the Tomahawk's cousin and like Couch Potato said, his mothers side went to Assumption. Also being from Finley, many generations of Finley families have been through Assumption...one name that springs to mind is Shane Crawford!

Besides, I think any bloke with any sense of Football pride or values would rather go to Assumption than MGS, with a much richer footy history and reputation.

I would've thought MGS had a pretty rich football history considering they invented and played in the first game.

Back to the topic! Xavier v St Patricks

Xavier won but not convincingly in a tough battle by three goals. Better players for Xavier included Kennedy (4 Goals), Lees, Cross, and Shiel (2 Goals).

Can't really be too harsh on Xavier's peformance due to its lack of big name players who didn't play including O'Sullivan.

Next Game:

April 1st @ St Kevins Main Oval Xavier v St Kevins (1st's Practise Game) and before it both sides 2nd's teams well worth watching

Rush will be pretty hard to stop being just as dominant as Jonathan Brown up forward.

Look for Craig, Ambrose & Noonan to pick up the major problems of the OX U 19's plus Whelan new inclusion although a lack luster performance aganist St Patrick's.

Xavier 1st's can't be overlooked this year no doubt the year of the "red & black"

New to this thing but let me just say this MGS 150 years scolarship stuff is all just extremely saddening. 6 scolarships for a crack at a premiership brings tears to most peoples eyes, if you claim that your team last year consisted of 17 yr 11's then why not keep it that, verse schools such as the likes of XC or SC..probably the only two teams in the APS still thriving on natural talent. Well done though Melbourne. maybe some time soon.

scotch have hardly been thriving on natural talent, they have given out scholarships to three Rioli's as well as djerrkurra a few years back. Probably only about three of those six will play firsts the whole year, the others are a bit young but may play one or two games.

do u know the time for this game? i wonder if skevs will try out the state yr 10s in this game

My Point being is that if Melbourne Grammar claim that Shaw etc carry the aps with their talent and how they still made the aps team after being tagged every game last year and continue to brag about how good and athletic all your blokes are in the threads on this site, than why get scolarships? Continue this was MGS and you could become the new Hailebury of the APS.

MGS do have scholarships but the majority of the team will be made up of people not on one and all the major positions will be people not on scholarships. our midfield will all be people not on one. most of the aboriginal scholarships won't play as regulars anyway
