apart from a couple of indigenous scholarships to boys in yrs 9 and 10, who will get nowhere near to playing 1sts footy, mgs have only given out 2 new scholarships this year - to steve may and luke mitchell

steve may - is also on an indigenous scholarship, is from nt but unlike other indigenous boys was chosen first up because he is a really good footballer

luke mitchell - played in u15 vsssa team with one of the grammar coaches as coaches. Having discussed possibilities and having expressed interest in going to mgs, luke mitchell was offered a scholarship.

Apart from these two boys, no-one else has been given a scholarship for this year. Both are in yr 10 and 11, so it is hardly a quick-fix get em in for the 150th so we can win. They are both not going to play as good a football this year as they will next.

On other scholarship news, brendan rathnow ( a scholarship from last yr) has left the school. This will mean that scholarship boys playing will be marangon (y12), mitchell (yr 11) and keath (yr 10).

Marra is actually on a 25% aths scholarship, with his brother paying full fees.

Keathys on a cricket/footy scholarship, however he approached the school being good friends of Jack Heinz (OM 2006), both from shep. Isn't on a full schol either.

Then there will be about 4 indigenous guys playing (depends on selection), of whom only 1 is genuinely here for footy, the rest are mainly here cos they are most suited out of all the indigenous boys who try out for the MGS indigenous scholarship spots available to aboriginal boys in the NT. We dont just pick guys who play footy, with a couple of the indigenous boys not even playing footy (yr 8 guy and yr 9 guy)

thanks for that. its always good to get rid of peoples speculations. it wud be good if other schools revealed there scolarships so people are clear about who are on scolarships and the number of. anyway xavs vs skevs april 1st. 2nds play at 11 and 1's play directly after them. should be a good day of football both schools looking good.

It is all well and good for Melbourne Grammar to go and recruit 10 Aboriginal players and i think it is great that those guys get given an opportunity and one of Melbourne's premier schools.

BUT

From what ive heard and also through the media scotch put alot of effort into extra curricular activities and studies for these boys who can go back to Darwin and become prominant leaders.

Unlike Melbourne Grammar who simply recruit a number of players and hope they can play football and after their finished at school they simply deiscard them.

It is all well and good to acuse scotch of recruiting but look where these boys have Gone:
Djekurra - Geelong
Rioli - Hawthorn
Sh. Rioli extremely good footballer will probably get drafted.

These are three out of four scholarships and it has helped the boys to get drafted!

Caulfield just had its intraclub match with another black young gun in Haag staring with 5 goals

Whens all the other praccys these holidays? Xavs vs Skevs tomorrow with the 2's playing at 11 and the 1's hitting it off at 1 which should be a really good game to watch

Should be an interesting game at Skevs tomorrow.
Carey Vs Skevs
Last time they played was last rnd last year and Carey managed to get a win. Skevs will be looking for a bit of revenge. Both teams will be undermanned with TAC CUP committments. Will be interesting to also see how the yr 11s from both teams step up now that they 'belong' more in the league. That includes Wallace and Parker from Carey and not sure whether Cachia and Purcell are playing for skevs.

what TAC cup players other than lisle does carey have? you'll be hardly undermanned.
teams like hailebury and xavier are undermanned during praccy matches, cause they have 10-12 TAC players, not 1-3

reliable source says not good signs for carey....pumped by a young and not very talented skc team who only a few days before were pumped by xav. i dont understand how carey are talked up? who were they missing?

very true. however, you cant read too much into practice matches with the top flight teams like xavier. if they had a full squad, they may have beaten skevs by more. however st kevins may have had a couple of TAC players not playing which may have cost them slightly.

probably their best player for one.
u cant predict things from practise matches because coaches are trying everyhting, we just have top wait for the season

What do people think about Xaviers petty tactics in their practice match against Geelong Grammar? While it wasn't a bad idea it was pretty unnecessary and was insulting to Geelong who were beaten by a very exciting Xavier 2nds team. Leaving there 1sts to play against Western Australian team Aquinas

Awesome tactics worked well. Great idea, worked better than planned when they managed to pull off a win. Perhaps a sign of the depth of Xavier, a scary thought.

A very arrogant move thus the reason xavier are the most hated football side in the APS. There was some depth, alot of mediocrity with a couple of extremely talented players who will probably play 1sts anyway. Geelong would have won with a full side, Geelong won 3 quaters, however they were unable to gain the lead back from the second quater where 2 players in the foreward led a goal onslaught, where geelong struggled to convert. I would like to hear from some non-xavier and non-grammar (geelong) students on the matter, i think the pure arrogance of the xavier admin is incredible insulting.

you have got it all wrong, it was not done so that xavier could flaunt its depth, it was done so that whoever was coming down to watch the game who were associated with the grammar firsts would not be able to spy.

Yeah you ____wit. It was a precautionary matter to avoid Melbourne Grammar getting a good look at the firsts, although in the end they did anyway. Only in retrospect does it reflect a great depth to the Xavier team, and was not a sign of arrogance at all.

Geelong did not win 3 quarters either, one quarter maybe. Get your facts right before making such ridiculous statements, no one is doubting that Geelong would have won with a full side, and nobody is talking down Geelong as a result.
