Senior List
apart from a couple of indigenous scholarships to boys in yrs 9 and 10, who will get nowhere near to playing 1sts footy, mgs have only given out 2 new scholarships this year - to steve may and luke mitchell
steve may - is also on an indigenous scholarship, is from nt but unlike other indigenous boys was chosen first up because he is a really good footballer
luke mitchell - played in u15 vsssa team with one of the grammar coaches as coaches. Having discussed possibilities and having expressed interest in going to mgs, luke mitchell was offered a scholarship.
Apart from these two boys, no-one else has been given a scholarship for this year. Both are in yr 10 and 11, so it is hardly a quick-fix get em in for the 150th so we can win. They are both not going to play as good a football this year as they will next.
On other scholarship news, brendan rathnow ( a scholarship from last yr) has left the school. This will mean that scholarship boys playing will be marangon (y12), mitchell (yr 11) and keath (yr 10).
Marra is actually on a 25% aths scholarship, with his brother paying full fees.
Keathys on a cricket/footy scholarship, however he approached the school being good friends of Jack Heinz (OM 2006), both from shep. Isn't on a full schol either.
Then there will be about 4 indigenous guys playing (depends on selection), of whom only 1 is genuinely here for footy, the rest are mainly here cos they are most suited out of all the indigenous boys who try out for the MGS indigenous scholarship spots available to aboriginal boys in the NT. We dont just pick guys who play footy, with a couple of the indigenous boys not even playing footy (yr 8 guy and yr 9 guy)
