Are we bottom 4 in 2010?

Thought I'd put this out to the Melbourne masses. I've recently made a bet with a Carlton friend that we wont finish in the bottom 4 next year. The way I see it is this past year, 8 wins got 12th. We could have won 7 this year very easily and we should improve. That says out of bottom 4 to me.

Am I right, or have I thrown 20 hard earned away to a Carlton flog?

don't think richmond will improve. big clear out of players and a new coach. looks like they're in for a long season next year. Port could also go backwards

Melbourne should have won at least three more games last year. With the addition of Scully and Trengove plus the natural improvement from the existing players Melbourne should finish 10th-12th.

Melbourne should be better than Richmond, North, Port and Freo next year and should be on par with West Coast and Sydney.

Our forward line isn't going to be elite, not yet anyway. But it will be good and good enough. Don't see why you have rated it so badly, it's actually rather promising.

Why?

Because we have an extremely talented group, although I think top 8 next year is very unlikely.

Top 8 in 2 years time, when middle-aged players then like Moloney, Bate, Petterd, Frawley, Jones etc are hitting their prime, is a possibility. We'll also have a fair few games into this and last years' groups of draftees. At the top end of the age spectrum, we'll be in the final years of Green and Bruce but they should still provide a reasonable output, James McDonald will be gone though. Aaron Davey, at 28, should still be as good as he is now.
