Are we really even ready for any disaster?

Long term and as we’ve already seen, our governments inability to manage the economy since 2008 will see the rich get rich and the youth pay for the lifestyle of the old and established

We desperately need a wealth tax, increase GST and vote in an economically responsible government

Agree with the first paragraph not the second.

A wealth Tax will cripple business (if self owned) and retirees. Hell even cash is an asset and considered liquid wealth so you are disincentivising saving. (Maybe not a bad thing to turbo charge spending and growth). GST is partially regressive and is a bastard to implement to easily dodged and most of the revenue is burnt on refunds and the cost of implementation.

A scaled transaction tax. For every transaction (start low to minimal) and turbo charge huge purchases would spread wealth out more easily if you want a tax mechanism to do it.

I'll settle for a responsible government before the economic miniature. Look at the shit show rolling on again.

a wealth tax would have thresholds and thus not capture 98% of people and the asset base would be focused on "non-productive" asset classes such as property. Thus the disincentive of saving wouldn't be the case........unless you managed to save $10m or more.

The GST argument has some truths but is mainly based on spin, lies and myths.
1) Consumption taxes and income taxes are born by both the buyer and the seller but the lie sold is GST is paid by the consumer
2) Places like Norway, NZ, UK and other socialist places have adopted extraordinary high GST. Why? because GST ensures tax collection from multinationals, prevents transfer pricing and makes local businesses competitive resulting in more jobs

Our governments for 15 years have been pathetic but to be honest we must blame the electorate. We haven't seen sensible reforms put forward as government is to scared and at the same time we have seen ridiculous reforms proposed that favour the wealthy, established and international organisations.

I had an exciting meal that came entirely from my garden this week. That's one way to avoid the supply chain.

Unfortunately I also needed to get some drugs from the pharmacy and I don't know how to make my own antidepressants yet. If a disaster came I would have a bad time weaning myself off of them. But at least I could probably still google the best way to do it.
