I went along to the game today and while neither side are going to be much chop for a while, I thought West Coast were very decent.
They have obvious deficiencies but probably should have won today.

The Tim Kelly trade must be close to the worst of all time - picks 14, 24 and 37 in 2019 and future first rounder in 2020.

Past four weeks we managed to avoid a flogging. Kicked 75 74 76 79. 49% to 61%. Could've won against the Bombers & Tigers, lead at halftime to the Demons, and were in striking distance of the Hawks until they kicked a few late. We lack ball magnets for one, haven't had a player get 30+ disposals since R22 last season.

Might have been the last chance for the year to win.
West Coast have North in Bunbury, Richmond in Perth, and while it would be an upset Melbourne at the MCG might be winnable if the Dees go into "unable to score" mode which they do 20 times a season. In Perth, even beating St Kilda isn't impossible - just don't put money on it.
They may not be favourites for any of those, but maybe 50-50 on the first two.
Even excluding a huge boil over, they would be unlucky to go winless - though the chances certainly increased with one of the more likely looking options now rubbed out.

North Melbourne have statistically been the worst side since Fitzroy have they not?

West Coast have done a bit of self sabotage when it comes to the current predicament.

The Tim Kelly trade looks worse and worse each game passes, Elliot Yeo cant get on the park, the leaders are crap as has been highlighted by some media pundits this year. The kids aren't developing without the senior bodies around them sans a very mineute few.

Will be a long way back but they did win a premiership only 7 years ago so not the be all and end all. A finals win would be nice for some clubs let alone a premiership

Nah, Bryce Gibbs takes the cake. Kelly has played more and better football for WC than Gibbs did for the Crows.
Both teams made the same bad decision for the same reason. They thought they were still in the premiership window and the top up of that extra player would get them a flag.

Carlton and Melbourne were both rubbish when they were at the bottom. Years of number 1 picks were wasted, and lots of AFL handouts.
North are probably nearly alongside them now.

WC hit the wall after an extended period of success, and a flag covers up a bit of the pain.
They are a good three years away from moving up the ladder as well.
Yeo, Kelly and Gov are on their last legs, and they don't have anything to replace them with.
Allen and Reid most likely off at the end of the year, after Barras last year.

They really need to have all their ducks lined up before Tassie come in or they are screwed.

yep, all good and valid points

In my mind Melbourne of 2013 vintage will always take some beating in these discussions.

I went to their game against Essendon in Round 2 of that year. 148 point trouncing, Essendon kicked the last 15 goals of the game.

I was there that night with someone who’d also gone down the highway to witness their 186 game against Geelong 18 months earlier and he was adamant the mauling from Essendon was worse; at least Geelong 2011 were an amazing side, so you could reason they were just on a hiding to nothing that day.

It was a very odd experience as the supporter of the team doing the mauling; kind of felt awkward and not that enjoyable after a certain point, because the opposition were so obviously beyond broken and shattered as a side.
