Watching on TV is getting ever more enticing for this one.
That is something fans should never say, when talking about an Essendon v Carlton match. Yet here we are and 17 people have voted in the poll that they won't attend because of the time slot.
We took all before us last year in regards to media spotlight, but this year other things will have be under the spotlight. The AFL and what they are doing to the game will surely be the one to be scrutinised

Don't think those of us that aren't going are all 'willing' to make this decision... unfortunately the time slot just makes it impossible.

My long held view is that AFL is best watched 'live'.. and that only through the watching of live games, week after week can a true, lifelong, love be born for a club and team.

I sincerely hope the AFL listens and changes otherwise I do fear for the future of the competition..

Damn.. that whole last 30 years I coulda sworn it was true.

It was more directed at kids.. kids 'watch' screens all day.. and have access to every sport under the sun.. when they just watch on tv.. they switch channels every 30 seconds and it becomes 'entertainment'.. rather than sporting passion..

That is why I think live works better.. the unforgettable experiences of finding your seat, the roar of the crowd, the smells, the excitement.. the whole immersion..

Yeah I get you. You had me worried though.

I'll be going. Not really a fan but I can manage one night a week on less than 6 hours sleep and go to work the next day. A few of you need to harden up.

I don't have work the next day, live in Metro Melbourne and don't have any kids. Easy for me to attend. But you can't look at it so selfishly.

What about those from regional Victoria where public transport will be limited on a Sunday night. Actually the same thing can be said for metro Melbourne. What about all the people who have to work the next day? Sure it isn't that difficult to wake up one morning after a short night's sleep. But being a Sunday night it sets up your week.

Will be looking at 5.5 hours of sleep on Sunday night.

But I can't miss a game between my boys and the Paper Baggers

They don't start without me there.
I bear witness to this. You were late getting into the ground once- the captains put up their hands and demanded to wait until windyhill had taken his seat, replete with pie and and flat beer. ;)

I wonder what the next experimental time slot will be? Saturday morning, perhaps? o_O

I have work the next morning (will be up at 6:30), a 4 month old daughter and it is about a 30 minute train ride + 10 minute drive home and I'm still going. As I said, people need to harden up.

I'll be driving down from Mildura for the game. Luckily being school holidays I have 2 weeks to recover.
Tell me you're at least staying in Melbourne after the game and not driving back? You wouldn't get back to Mildura until 4:30am!

Yeah, my folks are teachers too and they are going OS for the holidays so I'm house sitting for them in Melbourne for the 2 weeks. Not coming back to mildura until Easter Monday.

I hate Sunday night footy, it is a stupid concept. I will be going though as the temptation of a possible destroyation of the scum is too great to pass on.

I am going as the kid is begging me and he missed the Hawks game. Like man, I'll be home after midnight

Agree that it's a stupid time-slot/concept. It's not about 'hardening up' either. Going to the football should be an enjoyable experience (and a family one at that IMO) that doesn't have a flow on effect unless you are getting blind drunk. I would hazard that a guess that most, even those living in Metro areas, would prefer to be home prior to 10pm on a Sunday night, so why a schedule a game that doesn't allow for it?

I haven't been a fan of the AFL Administration for a long time but they seem to be going backwards at a great rate of knots

I'm going but I live pretty inner city. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday night really.
