I'll put my hand up for insisting that Army's disposal is not up to AFL standard, and that he should be learning the game's basics in the VFL rather than the senior side.

However, I can't argue with the numbers. 86% and 79% efficiency the last two weeks shows he's working hard to overcome his deficiencies, and is perhaps proving me wrong. He still handballs at teammates' feet too often for mine, but he's obviously improving. Did a solid job down back last night, never panicked, and took the opposition on in his inimitable style.

He just goes at it so hard, either to create an option or to recover a fumble and help out his teammates. Was definitely not out of his depth last night.

he had a ripper game last night and you are right, the last 2 weeks his disposal has improved dramatically!!! we needed a small dashing hard at it defender and he is learnig the caper beautifully.

I like this guy, tackles stick, quick across the ground and not scared to take them on if he has too and the moustache just tops him off..... lol.;:D

With the game passing Stevo and eventually Scotland by, JR and Army (with conitnued improvement of his disposal) have a real opportnity to make the rebounding HB spot by the nads and not let go :thumbsu:

Yeah I'm not his biggest fan, but was fairly happy with his game last night, can imagine Ratten being very happy with his application and work-rate, and hopefully his kicking and decision making can improve over time

No love for B-R-O-W-N-E?

Doesn't have the sheer athleticism, chasing agility and line-breaking rebounding ability of the other 2 for mine...... Army and JR are quick, agile and dogged, Browney is a neat and tough footballer but...but for mine might need to find another niche.

i dont know what the issue with army is
all these years watching these annoying forward pockets destroying us, while we were screaming for a nuggety back pocket
we finally have the man that kept our nemesis milne to 1 goal, puls usually beating the small opponents he plays on, and we complain about him

not oonly is he a nuggetty defender who can play defensive footy when needed, his attacking run out of defence is sublime, he is a bullet, who tackles like a madman, and is one of the only players that is prepared to run when we are down

so what if his skills need a little fine tuning, that will come in time, but inthe meantime lets just enjoy his explosive game and watch the adventure of dennis armfield progress!

Spot on, 100%.

EXACTLY!!! Spot on
I love watching Dennis play, he's really been working hard to improve his disposal and it's paying off, his attacking run out of defence is just amazing. he just grabs the ball and off he goes, doesnt matter who is in his way, he's gonna try and get it out. he 's really improving each and every week :) We've got a handy little half back flanker on our hands :)

Dont think his disposal is that far behind some others such as Andrew Walker. However his fantastic closing pace and tackling intensity at present is making him worthy of a starting 18 place despite his disposal.

Last night all the team were playing up-tempo footy for the whole game for the first time all season I think.
Army does this every week and that is why I think he is invaluable

as I have stated plenty of times in here before, my daughter & I are his BIGGEST fans.
Ever since the first family day at Carlton (after we drafted him) we loved the guy. he had time to have a chat to the fans (like a normal person), doesn't have a big head & doesn't think he is better than anyone else. He is such a down to earth guy.
My daughter has Army's number on her Carlton Jumper & Army's Dad stopped her at Etihad Stadium when we played against the Kangaroos & he said to her that she is the only person that he has seen with his son's number on their back & he thanked her very much for doing it..... He was so proud of his son as well
But great to see Army doing well & I think he thoroughly deserves his spot in the side. :thumbsu:

Army's dad is a great bloke. Rough around the edges but down to earth and kind hearted. Working class larrikin. He and his son will do me!

You're a very accommodating chemist, Guns. :thumbsu:

I think that he is one of those guys who will always be willing to have a go...

Perfect for what the club needs in the defence. As for his disposal, experience and the confidence that experience brings, will definitely improve over time.

I can just see JR and Army roaming up and down the flanks causing a lot of problems in the future.

When Army was dropped for the Swans game, he was the guest speaker in the Social Club before the match and the kid was damn impressive!

He knows what is required to keep his spot in the first 22 and wasn't afraid to admit that he knows his disposal needs fine tuning.

He has worked really hard on it the past two games and is reaping the rewards.

I guess you can say the same thing for JR.... prior to him being dropped, he really wasn't setting the world on fire. Now that he has fought his way back into the 22, he knows he has to earn it and alas, played his best game for the club on Friday night.

Next is Grigga :thumbsu:
