Game Day Around the Grounds - Week 2 - 1st & 2nd Semi Finals

I'm with soapy.

Does anyone really think elation with an historic victory and sharing that with family and friends mean they will head off to the GWS fortress next week and play the most talented team in the comp with even a whiff of complacency?

This is a well coached team that plays for one another and a victory like that will further strengthen the bond. As will enjoying it together.

Couldn't agree more. Some people read a little too much into things. They had a great win and celebrated that moment on the field after the siren. Pretty sure they are at recovery this morning focusing on the task at hand this week. Will make no difference to the result.

Didn't like i saw from the Doggies after the siren tonight .

The players, coaching staff, heck even the board are celebrating like they won the flag.

It might be perhaps understandable for a success starved club, but i'd be fuming if our players and footy dept carried on like that after winning a semi final.

Bevo has his work cut out to ensure his players aren't still drinking bathwater next week.

They celebrated like that (possibly more) when they beat the WCE last week.

Must be why they lost against the Hawks last night............derp.

I was chuckling until I realised you weren't being facetious... What utter tripe.

They haven't won or achieved nothing yet, they haven't made a grand final in 55 years, if they spend all week in self-congratulatory mode, they'll get smashed up at Spotless.

There's something to be said about clinical professionalism/emotional detachment, I don't mind what anyone says, that's how i'd want my teams to approach a cutthroat finals/playoff series

They have won the right to play in a Prelim and are one game away from making the GF.

Sydney won their 1st flag in 2005 after 72 years. So does that mean they had achieved nothing in making the Prelim in 2005.

But they celebrated like this last week.
You're just talking crap.

Yep I would hate if my team celebrated a good finals win as the underdog.

What a disgrace.

I'd hardly call The Dogs underdogs going into last night's game

You'd think they've won the flag the way they're carrying on. So they won a semi final against an old and battered champ, big whoop, if they are serious about winning the flag, Footscray really need to not get carried away with these wins. The whole media will spend this week labelling the Dogs as 'Victoria's Darlings', I just hope the players don't buy into all the hype, just bunker down at training.

The smart thing for Bevo and the club to do is to have closed training sessions all week, except for their final one before they leave for Sydney. The players don't need excited fans distracting the players with delusions of grandeur..

They were underdog last night.

What football season have you been watching ?

What did you make of the Bulldogs celebrating last week? Or weren't they underdogs last week either?

I want Hawthorn to win. Don't buy into the media driven narrative they are footy's villains.

clinical professionalism and emotional detachment are certainly required here. Focus on the task ahead and the job that needs completing.

But straight after the siren, after an against the odds win, against the three time premiers, to go through to a prelim, in a year where nothing has gone your way, is NOT the time for emotional detachment.

It's actually the perfect time for emotion, the perfect time to recognise the heart and spirit and courage that it takes to win such a game. I've said it before, "learn, contribute and enjoy". Monday you focus on the job at hand, ten minutes after the siren is the time to enjoy and celebrate....
