disagree with that

I think a clubs culture plays a significant role in how they fare as a club and in their ability to rebuild and relaunch out of the doldrums. Players like Voss, Lynch, Scott brothers, J.Brown, Black etc forge a club culture bc they demand more from their peers. A no nonsense coach like lethal demands better, this is what develops a strong culture where only best of breed survives.

compare that to us..who at our club has that ability to make them shit themselves for not pulling their weight or for notdoing the right thing for the team? Cant think of a single one.

thats culture for ya

you didnt quite answer what I posed their fella, I said simply coz a person came from a club with arguably a positve team culture does not in any way shape or form mean he has the ABILITY to instil it into 50 players...otherwise the likes of roger merret would have made outstanding coaches, you get my drift:rolleyes:

I didnt read your post properly I just read a few lines and then recalled how you have in the past stated that culture is over rated, and assumed it was on the same tangent, so apologies for that.

My inkling, Bo, is that he will be very much considered before we realise we can do way better ... and then we need to convince someone to do the job.

Mike Sheehan made a good point today in the HUN re Buckley when he basically said Buckley wouldn't:
1. Consider us as Richmond would be a graveyard for a first-time coac.
2. Be mad if he even did consider us.
I am not deluded in any way...there would be a dozen probably Buckleys out there who rule themselves out of this job!!! No one wants to coach us...except Campbell.

I dont believe that goldy, in reality there are only a select few that can sit back and hand pick a job a'la Voss, Hird and Buckley...the rest would throw a leg over the first job that was offered...seriously do you think that Hardwick or Ken hinkley or Leon Cameron would sit back and hold fire...what would they be waitng for...Not many senior gigs out there...there's the quick and the dead...the daring will back themselves to achieve against the tide...Cambo wont be only one that wants it , but I stand firm that he will present a strong case alongside the Hinkleys, Cameron, et al It's all about ahving a vision and the ability to get 50 blokes to follow it...forget respective playing careers it's almost irrelevant to ones ability to be a successful coach

doesnt matter who we get as coach, if we dont clean up/out our footy department and structure it correctly we will continue to be a **** up
our footy department was only formed last year, and your wanting to clean them up before they have had a chance to do anything?

Does anybody ever wonder if Matty Knights is instilling into Essendon what he thought we lacked in his time at Richmond. Mattys approach to football would have been at odds to others I would have thought.

I can see a certain rebellion against Frawley in his game plan.

correct, they way they have handled themselves over the summer to date has been woeful. the flip flopping on the ben cousins affair was embarrassing and patently obvious there is no leadership or strong culture within the footy department

For sure, and Frawley also made him retire before his time if I remember correctly.

i am over trying to think who should lead us. i was 1000% behind wallace and i was all for frawley when he first came and geishen before that. whatever guys, just see what happens, campbo might turn out to be an awesome coach and he might be crap. no way to tell. who would have thought clarkson would turn out so good?

One way, DT, to find out, would be to send Wallace on his way next week and give Cambo the rest of the year. Deserves a shot IMO. Zero risk in giving him 14 games to show what he can do as the main man.

If Campbell is the best fit for the job, so be it. (But I doubt he is). But being a Richmond person shouldn't be part of the selection criteria for coach. That is the sort of crap that Caroline Wilson is always pushing and now her Age cronies have joined in. Its the sort of thinking that made us so mediocre in the 80s when we wouldn't consider anyone but a Richmond person for the job.

Seriously?

I have to admit I had no idea he would so shit.

But you could tell we were desperate and I had to try and convince myself he would be good for us.

i got behind him even though he wouldnt have been my first choice. he said all the right things (at first and then he said all the wrong things) and for the first two years i believed as most of us did that we were about to turn the tide. Dannys problem was not having a plan b and an overestimation of our list at the end of 2001.

if they are going to do it do it soon. we dont want another geishen experiment of only 5 weeks. in hindsight 5 weeks is not enough data. people forget that danny had no plan b but the geish didnt even have a plan a. and he somehow got the job on the back of 4 wins out of 5.

Sums up Wayne Campbell perfectly.

At a time the club is in disarray and disgrace, he's making sure he is getting promoted in the media.

An opportunist, and a selfish self promoter. Just the way he was as a footballer.

Most ridicules thing I have ever read on big footy. You honestly think he is actively promoting himself at the moment? FFS take your hand of it. Shits me these anti Campbell posters who have no idea regarding his coaching credentials. I don’t, I wouldn’t have a clue. So how can you give an accurate assessment? Clubs go through a methodical and exustive process to appoint a coach…. Hang on, maybe they should appoint you and bypass all that. You do know best.

I agree. Knights is showing a lot of faith in his younger players, (may have no choice), with injuries, and they're repaying him in kind.

Could Campbell, from the same era, do the same thing? Maybe it was easier for Knights because he's at a different club. Maybe the affection, and connection to older players isn't there and he can make the tough calls.

Campbell may find it difficult to give the "over 30'S" thier marching orders.

if he is not then he could end it all by throwing his support behind wallace publicy.

the pro campbell posters who push him also have no idea about his coaching credentials, do they shit you too?

We'll agree to disagree on this one buddy ... I think Harwick and others will say thanks but no thanks.
Akin to the Frawley/Shaw scenario after others basically saidd no, it ain't worth the effort!!!
Coaching at Tigerland is not a long term career path.
Since 1980, only Jewell, who came back in 86 and Northey have gone on again to coach elsewhere. That's what scares coachees off, especially if yr' a first-timer!!!!
