Test matches are
First Test- Cardiff
Second Test- Lord's
Third Test - Edgbaston
Fourth Test - Trent Bridge
Fifth Test - The Oval

So no tests in Lancashire or Yorkshire.

We have two four day first class matches before the series against Kent and Essex. Between the second and third tests we have a three day match against Derby and between the fourth and fifth tests we have a three day match against Northants.

We'll also play the Poms in one T20I and 5 ODIs, with a practice match against Northants and an ODI against Ireland as well.

Nottingham is a nice ground - spewing to see it not there. And no Old Trafford???

Fourth Test is in Nottingham.

There are no matches in the North of England so no Old Trafford or Headingly

Will be interesting to see if there's any pressure on the counties from the ECB to field 2nd/3rd XI's given how we stitched them up last time.

I wouldn't be surprised. Though on the other hand these matches are a bigger money earner for the counties.

Lol. It's eastern midlands
That's why it's always been in the northern division of the LO comps (even when there were 3 divisions with the midlands)?

Because there are far more southern teams in England then Northern teams.

Nottingham is not Northern England.

My understanding geographically is that the North starts once you hit the peak district. Crewe is about the southern-most "Northern" major town.

The reason Notts gets counted as "northern" in county cricket is because the majority of clubs are wealthy and southern.

Notts, Stoke and possibly Derby would be considered culturally Northern and geographically Midlands. Anything further south is definitely Midlands or Southern.

Headingley looks like is gone from the Ashes for good.

Since the 2001 series it's only had one gig - 2009, which was Australia's only win in the series.

I remember hearing that the series where Pakistan hosted games in Headingley almost sent Yorkshire cricket broke.

Really disappointed Old Trafford missed out. Got to see the Aussies there last time and it was fantastic. I guess the issue could be if the Aussies played well at any ground other than London ones then the poor counties miss out on an Ashes test

It did - you have to bid for the tests and they thought heaps of Aussies would rock up and drink boat loads up of piss so bid plenty. In the end only the Pakistani fans turned up and unsurprisingly didn't drink - so the test made a huge loss and they have no cash to upgrade the facilities.

Lancashire is hardly a poor county

Doesn't really have anything to do with our record at the ground - it's all down to cash.
