So our assault on the 2010 final series has now been officially declared over (although I'm sure still mathematically possible ). Thank goodness many of us say as it means we can fully look forward to 2011.

Throughout this season we have had some healthy debate over the strength of our playing group and the pros and cons of our head coach. I think we can safely assume that Goodwin, Edwards, McLeod, Burton, Hentschel and Doughty (?) will be retired at season's end, and further assume that Craig will get at least another season to prove his worth. My question is, what else do we need as far as coaches?

Are you happy with Noble / Hart / Bickley / Clarke / Viney? Does Charlie Walsh get paid or is he a volunteer? What does Walsh actually do?

Do we need a specific goal kicking coach (apologies to BACC's thread)? Do we need a specific tackling coach? Who is our current skills coach?

IMO I'd like to get a coach who has knowledge / proficency in tackling as I'm sick of seeing opposition players breaking our tackles or getting their arms free to offload, while we so often seem to fall to the ground and get pinned.

Or are coaches overated and if we hired a trained monkey would we get the same result? What has happened in the space of a season? The last 16 games of 2009 we had 11 scores of 90 or more!!

I think you will find that Noble will move on and dont be  if Goody will get his job

Re specialist coaches, it would not hurt to have a goal kicking and tackling coach over pre-season

Also expect a new ruck coach and Birdman to be added to the conditioning / rehab team

Walsh is probably officially on the books as a contracted consultant though, since that's what he's done with himself after retiring from his full time cycling gig.

Three of those assistant coaches need to go.

I'd say they were crap but Vader might ban me for a week for that.

It was my understanding, or at least I'd heard, that Clarke - who is a part time ruck coach - will be leaving the club at the end of this season.

David Noble missed out on the job he went for, but I suspect he will be leaving regardless.

Bickley is almost certainly staying. Viney and Hart, up in the air.

Wow ! I has no idea we had a footy dept population the size of a small city!

I think there will only to changes with the assistants.
Here's some candidates I like.
Shaun Rehn to replace Doc Clarke.
If David Noble leaves I'd love the club to try get get Roo back as an assistant.
Steven Silvagni is leaving St Kilda so I wouldn't mind him coming to the club.
Brenton Sanderson would be a good acquisition for club if he doesn't get a senior job or stay at Geelong. He's also good at player development.
All the people I suggested would do wonders for our club and would give Craig an extra incentive to perform with all capable of becoming quality head coaches.

For reference, it's the same raw size as the Collingwood Football Department, though their number includes two staff dedicated to VFL work, and four less than the West Coast Eagles.

I think the personalities in the coaches box sum up some of the problems with the Crows style of play.

Viney, Hart, Bickley - they all coach exactly the way they played. Solid, fair, reliable and dependable.

Not one of them is what you would call a mercurial footy brain.

These guys would be excellent coaches if they were assisting someone like Malcolm Blight. But all they achieve at the minute is vindicating Neil's flaws.

I have a feeling Rehn will be part of coaching panel next year too.

"wouldn't mind" is an understatement imo.

Will be a head coach very soon.

PERTH Football Club coach Andrew Jarman is heading back to Adelaide next season.
He told his players before training today that he was departing the club "by mutual consent''.

"I am heading back for family reasons,'' Jarman told PerthNow. "I absolutely love it here and would love to stay but my family comes first.''

We really need to get some non past Crows players into the box. As much as I think Roo and Goody would be great and would love to have them involved in the club in some way, I'd hate for us to have a coaches box filled with ex club players. We need to cast the net a bit wider.

Sanderson is highly rated but would he leave Geelong if it wasn't for a head coaching position. Hinkley is the other name that gets floated around when assistant coaches at other clubs are discussed.

What are poeple's thoughts on Rick Macgowan.(spelling?) Played in succesful uncompromising Centrals sides, did a good job at Sturt and was essentially chased by Clarkson to come to Hawthorn. Pretty sure hs' been at Hawthorn as an assistant coach for the last 2 years. But I don't know much else about him and how he's rated.

You don't get Sanderson based on your own criteria!

There's rumour going around that the club has approached Tony Lockett to help out our players with their goal kicking.
Channel 10 reported that Scott Camporeale has quit Essendon so he might be a chance of joining our club.

I would love to see The Hound back at the AFC, maybe on next year, but the year after.

In fact I believe he will be the next coach of the Crows.

If it were a choice between Roo and Goody as an assistant, you would have to go with Roo. Done some time in the media, had a chance to pick other people's brains and would be a fantastic asset to the club ala Buckley to the Pies.

Need a full time ruck coach, tackling coach, goal kick coach...what are all the other blokes going to do???

PLease please no more ex players to our coaching group though all for Rehn replacing Clark.
But Sanderson, Silvagni . and Camporeale all have had good grounding in other clubs so might bring some freash ideas and challenge Craigy to change direction and not be a yes man

Do you guys think money grows on trees? A full time goal kicking coach and a full time tackling coach.

I can imagine a tackling coach would maybe get an hour with the players a week. What are we paying him for the rest of the time?

Same with the goal kicking coach.

I am not even going to get into the debate of whether paying a "professional" tackling coach will even help. I cannot imagine much more could be learnt about tackling technique than could be taught in a few pre season sesssions. After that it is practise and the weights room.

A change in fitness coach is due..... fresh ideas is a good thing. Injuries and prep no matter what the excuses are is not good enough.

just my opinion.
