Bit of a weak draw without Federer and Novak. Cant really picture any other final apart from Nadal Vs Murray maybe Tsonga can beat Murray since he has played non stop the past 2 weeks and doubles this week. In fact in my bracket in the semi finals i have the top 4 seeds. Tomic drew Anderson. Anderson will serve Tomic off the court IMO. If tomic manages to win that won Fish will be waiting in the second round. Matt Ebden beat Serra 6-4 6-2 in the first round of qualies. And Matosevic lost to Ilhan 6-3 6-0. I think he was injured again. Coverage starts on Monday on ESPN from 5:00PM but there are 2 main draw matches tomorrow Mayer Vs Fognini and Wawrinka Vs Monaco.

Is this true? Haven't heard anything about it.

Nice result for Ebden, if he can catch Petzschner a bit off his game he is defiantely a shot qualfying, hoping he can be a bit too solid.

I think Tomic might get less returns into play than Anderson serves aces.

Strange not to have Fed or Novak in a Masters Series draw. I'm contemplating picking a few upsets in my draw, but really Nadal and Murray will surely make it a fair way through the draw. Berdych was on fire against Tsonga but can he back it up over 2 weeks? Looking forward to the coverage starting, good timezone for us.

No Federer, Djokovic, Monfils, Soderling or Del Potro in Shanghai, so the field looks a little thin. I'd say a Nadal-Murray final looks the likely outcome, but Berdych sure looked good last night, and we all know how Tsonga can lift his game when he faces the top 4. Should be an interesting week.

Ebden Def Petzchener 6-3 6-1. Good win for Matty who has had a good season so far. Hopfully he draws WC Gong in the first round or Andujar. I would actually rate his chances against Dimitrov. He hasnt done much and there has been alot of hype. I can see Ebden breaking into the top 100 before seasons end a win here in the first round would see him pushing the top 110 and then next week he plays a challenger even in Orleans where he can pick up a few ranking points and then has the Aussie Summer early next year.:thumbsu:

Ebden has that Brisbane QF to defend at the start of the year too so it will be hard for him to gain anything during the Aussie summer, a win against Andjuar is going to sneak him very close to cutoff for the Aussie Open, hope he can beat him again and try and ignore thinking about winning a Masters 1000 match. Would be great if we have an extra WC to be able to use since Lleyton needs one.

This also adds to reason why I would pick Ebden over Matosevic for our Davis Cup team

Tomic doing better then i thought. Taking out the first set against Anderson 7-6. 1-2 In the second on serve. Suprised ESPN are showing this instead of the Centre Court match Gulbis Vs Nalbandian.

didak, I think we get some special feed (given they'd have a few different teams covering this event) given it's an Australian playing. They did the same thing for one of the earlier Masters, either Indian Wells or Miami, the only downside is that I can't stand this boring commentator.

Bernie loses the TB. Please, PLEASE don't go away without a fight.

Tomic doing well but does he even know that he's allowed 20 seconds or whatever between points? He plays like a junior still. Suggest he needs a real coach.

A great win from Tomic. Played really solid the entire match. Solidifies his position in the top 50 now with that win. He served really well (67% 1st in and won 77% of those points) and his groundstrokes were really good. He only faced a couple of BP the entire match and saved them both. Let's hope he can push Fish again.

Good win for Tomic. Cant really seeing him beating Fish though. Prove me wrong Bernie.;) Ebden is serving for the match with the score at 6-4 5-4 to beat Andujar for the second time in 2 weeks. He is 2 points away.

I think I got a logic on to get Bernie to win more, I bet against him and then he plays better tennis than we expect...

Really good performance from Bernie served well and had the upper hand in most of the rallies. Pretty much he had to get the return back and he was in control. That's the performance that everyone is expecting consistency week in and week out. I would be surprised if he gives Fish any trouble considering they just played last week.

Well Done to Ebden with a nice win, even though he beat him last week, doesn't necessairly mean he would do it in his first Masters 1000 win a week later. Now faces Harrison and Triocki, both are out of form so not entirely impossible but he will go in there with no expectations

2 Australians through to the 2nd round of a Masters Series. When is the last time that happened?

1967

No hang on, I'll find it, can't think off the top of my head.

EDIT: Actually, I do remember, '09 Cincy when Guccione made the 3rd round after upsetting Tsonga and then losing to Berdych (only to get his achilies injury just a couple weeks later in New York). And Hewitt made the quarter-final losing to Federer

A win for Ebden against Troicki or Harrison would see him crack the top 100 for the first time. As Matt said they are both in bad form but still a tough ask not impossible but very tough.

Far out I completely forgot about this tournament, (probably a good thing because we're about to run out of bandwidth). Great to see Bernie beat a quality player like Anderson, hopefully he can reverse the result from the Fish match last week,

Good to hear that Ebden won as well. If he can start getting direct entry to GS's it should put him in good stead to start picking up some points.

Tomic Vs Fish on Stadium Court tomorrow not before 8:00PM local time. Which is 11PM Melbourne time. Some people have work the next day you know!:p

As far as talent goes I saw his potential at the bottom end of the top 100 or around the 100 mark, he's getting very close to that.

He's at 112 atm, so if he can keep up his pretty decent form he hopefully could snatch a top 100 spot.
