I don't think Federer is like a moth to the flame, he learns his lesson and tries different things. He played atrociously today, with 2 UE for every winner. His FH was a bigger liability than his BH as he shanked balls continuously. That was the worst he has ever performed against Rafa, some people might say the result was because Rafa has improved and is hitting fast, deeper etc, but Federer usually puts up a much better fight than that, he was off last night.
Anyway, my contention is this, Federer played unusually badly. Would he sacrifice a couple of TMS to win the Grand Slam? Well, gauging by what he did in Kooyong, throwing a match to Roddick so Roddick would let his guard down at the AO, I think it's possible. I think it's very important for Rafa in the lead up to the French to stay the hell away from the press and people saying he is God on clay, because if he listens, Federer, the real Federer, may show up at the FO final and his plan will pay dividends.
