Most people who are smart can come to the conclusion that god does not exist without reading The God Delusion first, or even at all.

Also, the notion that being an atheist is just a phase is about as crackpot as the idea of god itself.

Luckily no one in this thread is saying that being an atheist is just a phase.

Skipper Kelly's comment below draws a direct connection between atheism, and young people using this to imply they are smarter than everyone else. Hardly a strawman argument.

Its a phase in the development of some young people. That they dont have some beliefs based in religion makes them feel superior which causes them into a delusion that they are smarter than the majority. The majority of these young people will learn otherwise but some will continue with the delusion.
