Australia brings back Knighthoods

Is it just an Abbott thing though, marriage equality? Why didn't Labor introduce it if it is so universally accepted? Just saying. The whole point of me replying in this thread was that it was because people were hating on Abbott for the sake of it. I'm out. Not gonna waste any more time trying to explain how little this knights and dames thing matters. If it upsets all of you so much, write to your local member. We are so hard done by in this country if this is what we are all upset about. Jeez

Labour were also dicks for not introducing it - but that is irrelevant. You can't say this is ok because it doesn't effect anyone when at the same time Abbott is against gay marriage. It is heinously hypocriitical.

It's not nonsense, it depends on what Asians and where in Asia you are talking about.

I would have thought the "former colonies" was a dead give-away I wasn't talking about China. However, having raised it, the Chinese consider themselves racially & culturally superior to the entire planet and will adapt to pretty much any political system safe in that knowledge. The reason they want to come here has nothing to do with respect.
I'd suggest China represent a fair proportion of Asia though. And in terms of immigration numbers to Australia, they're second to none

But one doesn't have anything to do with the other though. Again, this is people hating on Abbott for the sake of it. Labor had 3 years to bring in marriage equality. The fact is, they didn't because a huge fraction of the voting public (wrongly) don't agree with it. That ain't Abbott's fault mate. Understand that

Although it seems the thread has denegerated into white man telling yellow man how he should think about white man.
Yep. It's come a fair way though. Started off with people having fun poking fun at Abbott for no real reason but it was ok cos it was funny. Then turned into calling the libs Nazi's (Godwin's Law) and hating on Abbott for the sake of it. Then it turned to claiming Asians hate Australians because we're not only western but led by a monarchy. All of which apparently has something to do with Abbott being against 'gay marriage' (which, if we're being all politically correct, which is not likely given the contents of this thread, should be 'marriage equality') despite the fact Labor had no intention of introducing it during their years in power. All the while this thread is meant to be about knights and dames, which means absolutely sweet FA to anyone.

We live in a privileged society

Asians don't think about Australia much but when it's in the news for a political visit to here or whatever the story these things are reinforced.

Having another country's flag on your own flag is very unusual. Everyone in the world knows what the British flag looks like; it being on ours wouldn't go unnoticed when people see Mr Visiting Dignitary smiling in front of it.

The flag is a part of it, us being westerners is a part of it, but us being here because our predecessors very successfully took it over is the main reason for the perception.
It isn't though.

Many flags share similar symbols, derived from a single source.

Mate - I'm not having a go at Abbott for not passing the law (his perfectly within his rights to be a complete fk-****). I am saying you can't have a crack at people who are criticising Abbott for this policy on the bases you suggest, because there is another emotive policy out there where he takes the exact opposite view - where he refuses to allow passage of legislation that doesn't even effect 90% of the population.

You are missing the point in trying to defend him.

I'm not defending him mate. Just trying to introduce facts. And why is the Dame and knights thing 'emotive' exactly? That's my whole point. Which %ge of the population does it affect. And your are conveniently forgetting Labor had 3 years to introduce marriage equality. Why didn't they?

Can you provide examples.
All are derivations of the first. Each were member states or affiliated once with a central American federal republic much like a "commonwealth", minus a dominant single mother country.

Whilst it's origins are more ancient (like the components of the union Jack), the popularisation of the crescent and star was directly attributable to the Ottaman, then Moghul empires. Many former client states or regions continued the legacy, even before it gained wider international significance.

Modern examples include:

Likewise, look at the flags of many former, or current communist states, each a product of the Russian communist legacy.

People are having a go at Abbott because it's clear garbage distraction politics.

Why blue?

Personally I'd prefer colours and art work that uniquely represent Australia.
Not sure there is any. Blue due to the ocean or sky is as relevant as red. Red earth is synonymous with the centre or North West, but the vast majority live in cities in the south near the ocean.
