Serious question, has Nadull ever taken a Medical Time Out (or toilet brake whatever same shit) whilst in complete control of a match and heading to victory?

The man is an unbeatable monster. As far as I can tell a Nadull injury is the only way other players have had a look-in at Grand Slam success. There's no way in hell a 100% fit Nadull could ever be beaten, NEVER.

Stan you legend. First time grand slam winner and finally someone other than Fed/Rafa/Novak/Andy have won one of these since Del Potro. It has been a long time coming.

When the match was on an even keel in the first set, Stan was the dominant player and was playing some blistering tennis.

Hopefully Rafa can recover quickly. Looking forward to the rest of the season, hopefully a lot of you who only post during the AO come back and discuss what is happening on the ATP/WTA tour during the season.

Always sucks when the AO is finished, I probably watched more tennis this summer than I have in a long while and I loved it.

Whilst I have plenty of time for Rafa, the adoration can be a lol. How can you possibly make such a claim-what, Rafa is the only person who can carry an injury? Give it a spell.
Interesting to also note that the posters congratulating Rafa on his class seem a little reluctant to follow his example. Go figure. ;)

Look at the pain he was in, the guy could barely move, was serving at 120km/h for quite a large portion and wasn't even running.

How many other players would have really kept going?

im not in any player camp (nadal, warry, fed, AM etc). i dont have a fave player.

the only way to remove all doubt is to remove all injury time outs.

nadal was very gracious after the match. credit to him.

fed would be happy with the swiss win.

from a casual perspective warry would be a very popular winner right tennis fans? loved the fact he didnt collapse to the ground when he won. humbly raised his arms almost in disbelief.

Who knows-probs lots of them as it is a grand slam and they can rest afterwards. I noticed a few of the girls got injured at some point in their matches-but no fuss-don't think they even took breaks, just played on. Different people have different thresholds, it is not possible to assess how hard it was for Nadal by sitting at home. He is tough and a fighter and gracious-but so are many other athletes-they are very fit after all. I am happy to acknowledge how cool Rafa is, but take exception to the view that only he could do that. (There is a big gap of response to pain bw Nadal and Tomic-so they are not necessarily the measuring sticks)

No, it wasn't understandable. The chair umpire even said he was taking a medical time out. It was idiotic of the crowd to assume he was abusing the system without any knowledge.

At that point there was no evidence of an injury, the umpire didn't even know what was wrong with him (couldn't tell Wawrinka when he was supposed to). Given Rafa's history of tactical time outs it's hardly surprising the crowd booed. Did you not notice that when the crowd realised Nadal was actually injured they cheered him? Personally I would not have booed and would have given Rafa the benefit of the doubt but given the circumstances the booing in this instance is understandable. Even Warinka who is a friend of Rafa and has great respect for him was suspicious that it was just gamnesmanship and was angry about the situation.

This is a great point. Even his opponent was very angry with the Medical time out, so the crowd reaction is not surprising at all. I bet that many watching at home were dubious of the break straight after Rafa lost the opening set as well.

Once everyone realised it was a legit injury, they were sympathetic to Rafa.

Rafa is one of the most humble and genuine guys in the sport of tennis. In no way was he faking that injury. Did you see how much pain he was in when getting massaged? Having said that Wawrinka was much better in the set and a half before the injury and deserved the victory in my opinion.

He took one against Federer after the first set (score was 7-6 1-0) on Friday night to get his hand worked on.

What's wrong with collapsing to the ground? But good on Wawrinka not to, someone said it before, but probably contained himself because he knew he we won partially due to injury. Take note.... guy who played Kyrgios who I've now forgotten name.

Maybe Wawrinka was in the wrong?

At the end of the day, the crowd booed based on no evidence. Sorry, but just because Wawrinka was arguing, in which the crowd couldn't hear Rafa's or the chair umps side, doesn't give them an excuse to boo like that. They looked like campaigners, acted like campaigners, and should feel ashamed for being campaigners last night. Maybe just don't boo at all.

Sort of happy and glad the AO has ended. Lets be honest the standard was very low this year. Unfortunate as the heat had a lot to do with it. It happens, you can't control the weather. Nice to see some new champions on both sides. After the draw it was always going to be an underwhelming AO- 3/4 of the players were on one side! Hopefully Ferrer out of the top 3 eliminates this which is good

U got to stop with the love affair of the "big four". The best game last open and this open was the same 2 players; Novak v Stan. A good game doesnt require a big four contest. i do agree with you about the heat took a lot out of the first week but the draw had nothing to do with it.

For me, the best games of the tournament were

Radwanska v Azarenka - was great to see Aggy finally win and the tennis she produced in the 3rd set was the best set all tournament. She just kept getting the ball back. Shame about the semi.

Ivanovic v Williams - Ana from a few years ago v a wounded but dangerous player. was great drama and some hard hitting and a huge upset(and i won some nice money). was great to see Ana back. looks like she will have a good top 8 year based on this form. yes, Williams was injured and couldnt not hit UE's but Ana went for it and put so much pressure that she couldnt just get the ball back into play.

Novak v Stan - 5 sets. Stan showing his improvement. . it slowly stared to warm, then up ended so quickly. Was the most important match for the championship.

were probably better matches i missed early in the first week/2nd week. just the ones i caught.

High points. A new winner. Nadal back playing here. Unearthing some young talent. A bit of a shake up in rankings.

Low points. The weather. An injury effecting the most important match. Some players with a real chance to make a mark this tournament like Del Potro and Tsonga failing to do so.

Hardly solved, Federer in 8th and Murray in 6 just means they will meet in the quarters instead of semi's.

Happy that Wawrinka pulled through, because it could have been career-killing if he lost. Nadal is unquestionably the GOAT in my mind, but injuries just won't leave him. Therefore, there has to be a real chance he will never catch Fed's 17 slams.

Good and fair enough, both players should be ranked around there, lets be honest here Fed hasn't really one much in Slams for the last 12 months (except this AO). Murray is fair, has been injured for 5 months!

Have never liked Murray.

I like his transition game, volleys. His baseline game bores me though. He just tries to push too much. It is a pity as he has the shots to be a genuine top 2 player. Big serve, fantastic net play, and big forehand/backhand...if only he went for his shots!

He comes across as terribly boring, doesn't have the flair Rafa, Novak and Roger do.

I agree, but it is not saying he doesn't have the shots though, he does...he just plays safe tennis.

Most if not all players carry injuries into a Grand Slam finals even if its just fatigue. Rafa has been gifted a few grand slam titles himself by his opposition struggling with injury. Its all part of it and you take the good with the bad.

Stan was a very worthy winner, no gloss taken of it in my eyes.

I dont blame the crowd for booing given Rafa's history with medical time outs.
