This weekend, the 2009 Australian Open at the NSW Golf Club, Sydney

I think it's a fairly strong field this year, one of the best i've seen in a few years.

I'm looking to get an open discussion going for before, during, and after the tournament.

Sorry to give you nothing out of the ordinary, but i believe that Geoff Ogilvy will just edge them out with his class in this one. There is some real talent in this field dont get me wrong but Ogilvy will be too good for mine.
Not to mention the fact that he's a saints supporter, i do have a soft spot for this bloke

Well, feel free to share any info, opinions or whatever else in this thread as we move on to what should be a very entertaining Australian Open with some high quality golf shown by these professionals.

It's a strong field without doubt but barely any different from the field at Royal Sydney last year.

Yeah, it's basically the same field. I'm curious to see if the Masters has had any knock on effect to the Open but i doubt it.

Standard Australian open field really, but since the Australian players have been clowning around all year i'd call this an average to weak field. Ogilvy the sole player ranked in the top 50, and you know your tournament lacks a little firepower when John Daly is your drawcard...

Ogilvy absolutely no chance on this course. I like Liang Wen Chong @ $6 for top 10 though.

1 in Melbourne, 1 in Queensland = a requirement in peoples eyes that the 3rd should be in Sydney.

Lot better sponsorship opportunities in Sydney apparently and they can lock in deals for longer terms if the tournament stays in the same city for a period of years.

Morning groups coming close to completing their rounds.

Daly is +2 through 15, not too bad considering he hasn't played much recently.

John Daly actually had a pretty good day, and the good thing is most of his second round will be on TV live.

Looks like the cut will probably be somewhere between 3+ and 5+, so Daly would have to go backwards quickly to miss the cut.

His group (Scott, Nitties, Daly) tee off at 12.10 AEDT.

For a man having a ****ing awful year, Stuart Appleby is having a nice week so far. 9 shots better than any other player on his side of the draw (looks like it will be the bad side)

Now 12 under after 2 rounds, has a 6 shot lead although his closest challengers havent teed off yet.

Can't see him being beaten from there.

Great to see him playing so well too, one of the truely internationally competitive players Australia has had over the last 10 years.

Allenby's leading the Nedbank Challenge in SAF too, which is amazing after both players played shit house for their country at the World Cup in China last week.

Yeah, seems they found form late in that tournament, maybe playing together bought back that "love of golf" feeling that seems to follow the top players.

Appleby now 7 shots up as Hend bogeys his first hole.

I thought they weren't too bad watching yesterday (Other than the fact it's three hours delayed!!!!).

Greg Norman is going to be part of the telecast on the weekend, so that might improve the coverage a bit. Frank and Greg were Captain/Vice-Captain of the President's Cup team, so they will work off each other well.

Leaderboard is starting to look better, Scott at -6, Badderley, Lyle and O'Hern -4, all we need now is for Appleby to shoot a level par score or worse tomorrow and we will have a good tourney on our hands.

I was watching it 15mins ago, in Perth, and Ogilvy blew a shot and promptly said the F word loud and clear, the knobhead commentator Diffy is it? promptly apologised and said we are live at the moment. By my reckoning it was then 7.50pm in Sydney and there is no way it was live into Perth.

That was shown live on the East Coast though, so Diffy's comments and Ogilvy's swearing were live on TV.

Yeah you've got a point there I suppose, if I had to pick between Diffey and McGuire I'd take Diffey but you can have the yank.
With that Channel 9 cover I lost count of the number times McGuire mentioned Woods' name in fact watching it you could be forgiven for thinking that Tiger was the only player out there.
