Loved the MXW event in Horsham and getting a pic with local Marco Dal Lago. He's trimmed up and improved heaps in the last 6 months. Brian Kendrick is just the loveliest bloke. First saw him on VHS in a Toryumon multi man tag match in the early 00's.

whats with all these new melbourne promotions running weekly? seems like peak has run weekly for a few months and pipeworkds 2-3 per shows per week. Is there demand?

Workers want to have fun and have a wrestle. Gives them a good opportunity to try out new things without a bigger crowd around, or just take the piss and pop the boys I'd guess.

I don't know about Alpha, but from what I can gather from speaking to people, guys working Peak Pro basically have the attitude that it's a low pressure show to try new things and get reps without the worry of screwing up on a bigger stage. I got invited to one of their shows and it was fine enough, I'd rather guys getting reps doing character stuff and comedy matches than getting put through the DMDU grinder.

There's so much good wrestling in this country right now, even beyond the feds with online exposure, there's other groups putting on quality shows and even some of the shows that get ragged on, have moments of upside.

Also one last thing on the Peak debate. Yeah their shows are small and a bit hit or miss, but the podcaster who buried them is the same bloke who ran a handful of shows with some of the best talent on the shows and actively trying to help him out and they were an absolute debacle, so he should be the last to talk.

Speaking of feds that don't have much internet hype but are doing good things, AWS in Sydney have been drawing big crowds for quite a while now and their show last week had a crowd of 550+. They have a really interesting mix of older guys that can still go like Tyson Gibbs and Bronson King mixed with younger guys in a more old school presentation.

Their June show is their most recent one up and it's really good old school wrestling without the bells and whistles, it's obviously a fed for the live crowd more than video but it's still quite watchable video wise and the show itself is great.

This isn't 550+ people.

AWS are a known laughing stock for comically inflating their numbers to the point of absurdity. 200 if lucky.
I used to really follow the numbers. Now I think let them have their fun and say whatever numbers they want. If Dragon Gate wants to claim 700 people at FACE that holds 400ish, sure why not?

If AWS wants to say 550+ well I think there looks like 1000+ people there. Let's just throw out the biggest numbers we can!

Personally the figure doesn't really matter that much as numbers are a pissing contest at the best of times, I'd just seen the show online, enjoyed it and then saw the post about Saturday. Either way it's a solid crowd regardless of count and it looks like they make noise and get into the show.

I just found it interesting because when I lived in Sydney for many years and still having contact with some people in the Sydney scene, there seemed to be this prevailing attitude that anything outside PWA and their way of doing things was crap and not "proper" wrestling, so seeing a promotion quite different doing well, even with inflated numbers, pokes big holes in that narrative. Same as both All Star and RNR seem to be doing pretty well too.

It's a solid crowd, just funny when any promotion tries to claim triple the actual attendance especially when it so obviously is significant less.

With PWA, anyone saying that their way is the only way is either associated with them or a mark for them. If you look at it objectively they have their NRL sponsorships, they wrestle at Tigers home games, they get their Triple M interviews, appear on the Today show, articles in major newspapers, World Series Wrestling, NWA, OPW, NJPW Tamashii, every big event, tons of money, beautiful buildings, WWE Superstar endorsements, NJPW contracted guy on the roster etc but they still can't draw more than 300-400 people to a show in Sydney unless they have special guests. Not only does RNR outdraw them most of the time but Slam is putting another 200-300 people into the seats every show as well.
