One is an international legend

The other barely scraped together three seasons of decent FC cricket in Australia

Poles apart

199 wickets @ 26 isn't quite barely scraping three seasons of decent FC cricket. The bloke was probably unlucky not be make the Australian test side.

Yorkshire skittled for 50 on the first morning, yet at the close of day one the game is evenly poised after they returned fire bowling Essex out for 150 and are now 2/161. Ducks for both Cook and Root in the first innings.

Funny game is cricket.

They got up in the end, won by 91 runs. Amazing effort given their start.

So far for the Aussies:

Division 1:

Matt Renshaw (Somerset) - 4 matches, 305 runs at 50.83, 2 centuries
Travis Head (Worcestershire) - 5 matches, 291 runs at 36.37, 2 fifties
Peter Siddle (Essex) - 4 matches, 20 wickets at 16.10, 1 Five wicket haul
Joe Mennie (Lancashire) - 4 matches, 16 at 21.62

Division 2:

Mark Cosgrove (Leicestershire) - 4 matches, 207 runs at 34.50, 2 fifties
Shaun Marsh (Glamorgan) - 4 matches, 203 runs at 29, 1 hundred, 1 fifty
Michael Hogan (Glamorgan) - 4 matches, 18 wickets at 17.11, 2 Five wicket hauls
Dan Worrall (Gloucestershire) - 4 matches, 16 wickets at 21.75
Hilton Cartwright (Middlesex) - 5* matches, 78 runs at 9.75, 11 wickets at 17
Nathan Rimmington (Durham) - 3* matches, 6 wickets at 37

A little disappointing that players like Labushagne or Jhye Richardson didn't pick up contracts, or are there rules in place for a certain amount of international games still Phone?
those rules are still in place. i don't think there's been any changes from how it used to be. To qualify for a permit you needed to have played:

1 test in the last two years or 5 tests in last 5 years

Now, there was a 'trigger' was for OD/T20 international appearances, but I don't recall that off the top of my head

So, in real terms, that meant Trent Copeland only got to have one kick arse season in England because his qualification expired thereafter, whereas Rensahw and Bancroft are covered for the next few years. Joe Mennie will be out next year, unless he has a EU visa hanging around somewhere

I found a post I made somewhere that once said "15 ODIs or International T20s in past 24 months" qualifies someone, but I didn't source it. I've just now found this set of criteria in some document on the Ireland Cricket website which states these rules that appear to be the same for County:

Please indicate which of the following criteria are met: (all that are applicable)
- 1 Test match in past 24 months (please provide evidence of date and details of matches)
- 15 ODIs or International T20s in past 24 months (please provide evidence of date and
details of matches)
- Centrally contracted and member of most recent international squad (please provide
evidence through letter from Home Board confirming central contract and membership of
most recent international squad)
- 5 test matches in past 5 years and remain eligible for Home Country (please provide
evidence through dates and details of relevant matches and letter from Home Board
confirming continued eligibility)

Pages 6 and 7 of this document expand on those dot points: http://www.cricketireland.ie/images/uploads/site_images/Cricket_Ireland_-_GBE_-_2015_(1).pdf

So yeah, for an overseas player to be eligible to get a county deal, they need to meet one of those markings

Renshaw finishes his stint with Somerset with a century and 60 odd to push Somerset to the top of the Division One table. Scored more runs than anyone in first class cricket this calender year.
He could well finish on top of it by the end of the year.

Impressive strike rate too!

Given that that was the biggest knock on him during his first run as a test player, it's pleasing that he's worked on being a quicker starter and creating more scoring opportunities early on in his innings. He could always turn it on when well set though.

Great to see isn’t it , think in stew years we will look back and getting dropped last summer may be the best thing that happened to him.

Thought I'd go back and look at the records of those who played last season.

I suspect this the most Australians who are also in international contention we've had in County since the 2000s though

The county rules I posted above are still in place. Interestingly, the ECB have (imo, belatedly) started trying to change these laws, for the purpose of The Hundred: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/cricket...ract-worlds-greatest-t20-players-changing-uk/

Whether these rules affect County remain to be seen
