Who - if anyone - should change numbers?

I'd like to see Warnock and Foster "rewarded" with higher numbers of they want them, and maybe Smith as well. I guess they'll leave #5, #13 and #39 just in case they rookie those guys... but I'd like to see:

10 - Foster
19 - Smith
23 - Warnock

Any others?

I'd like to see us do that St Kilda type thing where the retiring player hands over their number to the up-and-comer. I reckon it would further bond the players together, and is a good way of keeping past players involved with the club.

Cookie maybe gives the 10 to Foster or Palmer/Masten. (O'Brien would be the best fit of course.)

Parks hands the 23 to a new KPP?

And I think Kepler will most likely be best suited to the 26...

23 should go to Michael Johnson. After all the number plates on his car are Mj23.

Good mareting oppurtunities to. MJ23, Air Johnson etc. :D

Absolutely if he wants that number. I just figured after 4 years in the system now, he might not want to swap. BUt yeah - if he does - good call. :thumbsu:

Rhys Palmer
Clayton Hinkley
Chris Mayne
Mark Johnson
Kepler Bradley

This are the changes I would like to see:

Current players:
5. Andrew Foster (deserves a higher number)
19. Chris Smith (solid 10 year, 150+ game player like Grandson - but better than Grandson)
20. Robert Warnock (fill the shoes of JLo)

New guys:
10. Rhys Palmer (will become a Freo hero, so deserves a Freo hero number)
26. Kepler Bradley (I can see another Clive in the making ;))
13. Mark Johnson (can break the hoodoo :thumbsu:)

Leaving:
23 (gotta be careful with this one - carries a lot of expectation)
34
38
39
40
42
44 (Chopper Mayne - #44 suits a guy with a nickname like Chopper IMO!)

Just thinking aloud, that's all.... :)

I'd like to see MJ (the original) take on 23. I don't think we are going to find anyone to fill Parker's shoes, but 23 is traditionally worn by some pretty special players. I think MJ is the right fit.

I'll be glad if Warnock gets 20. Then I won't have to get a new number on my guernsey...

I really would've liked to see the number 23 retired. The poor bloke never got any recognition over his whole career despite the fact that he carried the entire city of Fremantle on his back.

As good as all of our players are, I just don't think anyone is fit to wear the number 23. That's not supposed to be a slight on the players, it's just that Shane was a really special player. No matter how big the feet, none will ever be big enough to fill the shoes of our quiet, religious tower of defensive strength.

I miss you already Parks!

While we're talking numbers, I admire guys like Hayden and Pav (to name two) who start with high numbers but stick with them instead of trading down to a lower number.

Good attitude I reckon. Make it your number - make people recognise it instead of chasing a flashier, trendier number. I know 29 has become one of my favourite numbers over the last 7 years. And we all know what Michael Jordan did for the previously uninspiring number 23.

I love old man Parks as much as the next guy but I'm not a big fan of this number retiring business.

Hopefully our club is going to exist for hundreds (nay, thousands) of years and we're going to have some pretty special players pull on the purple. There would have to be a pretty extraordinary reason for retiring one of their numbers - like Pav jnr jnr sacrificing his life to destroy the alien ship threatening Earth or something - otherwise we're going to run out of numbers.

I love the idea of retiring players handing over their jumpers to the newbies though. Does the club do this already? Because they should. Someone email them.

Yeah, I did consider that our many legions of world beating players in future would have their numbers retired, leaving us with very few un-retired numbers. But then I remembered an episode of Futurama depicting baseballers in the future wearing fractions on their shirts because all of the real numbers were retired. I think we could be revolutionary in this area. I can see Brock ditching the servicable, but bland number 12 to be the first to sport the number pi.

You know it makes sense.

How good is Clive? Still an iconic source of amusement after all these years.

If anyone deserves to have their jumper retired it's Clive.

5- Should be given to Rhys Palmer if Ryley Dunn is not retained as a rookie
10- Andrew Foster should be given this jumper as he is player on the rise.
13- Mark Johnson, should be able to get the monkey of this jumper numbers back.
19- Clayton Hinkley
20- Robert Warnock reminds me of a young J-LO
23- MJ (jnr) deserves this and if he choses not to adopt the number then retire it for a year .
26- Kepler Bradley
34- Chris Mayne an oportunist goal sneak like Medhurst was when on form

Does Dunn get to keep his #5 now... Or does he get stuck with whatever number is left over as the #50 pick in the rookie draft?

Last-chance Ryley with #13 perhaps?
