Lets face it, people rarely admit it, but the 80's was the second renaissance.

Post the songs that defined this decade for you. No obscure shit that no one has heard of though (campbell!)... post the most awesomely cheesy and overproduced stuff here - with YouTube links if possible.

I'll start.

Feargal Sharkey - A Good Heart - Heard this song in the UQ Lollyshop today and it inspired this thread.

Journey - Don't Stop Believin' - Steeeeeeve Perry!

Meat Loaf - I Would Do Anything for Love (But I won't do that) - Classic Meatloaf... overproduced and operatic. Classic.

Europe - The Final Countdown - Possibly THE 80's anthem.

USA for Africa - We Are the World (Watch this without getting shivers down your spine, I challnge you. Stevie Wonder, Cyndi Lauper and Bruce Springsteen steal the show!)

Mike and the Mechanics - The Living Years

Cyndi Lauper - I Drove All Night I still have a crush on Cyndi. "Time After Time" is brilliant too.

Bruce Springsteen - Dancing in the Dark

Scorpions - Wind of Change - Captures the Cold War era perfectly. Great whistling song.

Guns n Roses - Patience - Another whistling classic.

Queen - I Want to Break Free - Freddie glams it up big time. Love it.

Roger Waters - Every Strangers Eyes

Paul Simon - You Can Call Me Al - Clip features the legendary 80's icon - Chevy Chase.

Platinum Blonde - Doesn't Really Matter - "It's just for Show-ow-ow-ow"

Will add more when I think of them. :thumbsu:

I wasn't alive in the 80s, but i still love the music, so here are some of my faves. (Apologies if some aren't specifically from the 80s)

Run to Paradise - The Choirboys
- Just love it, a great song.

Good Times - Jimmy Barnes and INXS
- Honorable mentions to Working Class Man, No Second Prize and Driving Wheels.

Coming of Age - Damn Yankees - This one's a bit obscure, but dead set, long hair, cliches and guitar. What more do you need?

Better - Screaming Jets - If this isn't in the top 5 Aussie Rock songs ever I'm leaving town.

Evie - Stevie Wright - This cover is done by the wrights, some sort of cover band. They do an alright job but if anyone can find the real video that would be great.

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=anCg5EiB2AMNo Secrets - The Angels - :)

Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Öyster Cult - Not sure if it's 80s or not, but I like it.

Crazy - Icehouse
- How can you not love it.

I have a feeling that Tim the Toolman is going to be all over this thread with some OzRock classics!

I'll start him off with one of my favourite albums which was released in 1980, 5 months after the passing of Bon Scott. Back in Black is the ultimate in ____ rock.

As much as I'm passionate about 60's (beatles fave band)& 70's music I'm an 80's child through and through. As TBD said it was the second golden age of pop after the first one in the mid to late 60's. I'm not really into the cheesy stuff such as Meatloaf & the hair metal bands though, moreso the stylish english pop from the new wave/new romantic/synth pop movements.

Soooo many but here are a few faves.

I Ran - A Flock Of Seagulls
Life In A Nothern Town - Dream Academy
Homosapien - Pete Shelley
Planet Earth - Duran Duran
Gold - Spandau Ballet
Fade To Grey - Visage
Vienna - Ultravox
Prince Charming - Adam & The Ants
William It Was Really Nothing - The Smiths

Seem to be missing Appetite - Prefab Sprout from the list above Black_Hart

What About Me? - Moving Pictures Shannon Noll has nothing on the original.

US Forces - Midnight Oil My personal Oils favourite, could have picked one of many however.

Flame Trees - Cold Chisel Couldn't have the Oils without a bit of Chisel......

Mean to Me - Crowded House Crowded House first single. This is actually a pretty good live clip of it.

Whats My Scene - Hoodoo Gurus Just forget that the League boys use it. Classic Aussie Rock

Moonlight Shadow - Mike Oldfield Not sure why, but I loved this song.

Tell Her About It - Billy Joel When Moonlight Shadow was #1 this was #2. Loved them both.

I want a New Drug - Huey Lewis & the News I used to live these guys as well. Saw their concert in 1989 (I think), Darryl Braithwaite was supporting at the Tennis Centre in Melbourne:thumbsu:

Some sort of cover band........

Key members of Powderfinger, Jet, Spiderbait, the Easybeats, You Am I, Dallas Crane, The Living End & Grinspoon make up the Wrights.

Evie is an all time Aussie Classic (a 1970's classic, but a classic none the less:D) Stevie Wright was originally a member of the Easybeats and I think he may have been the one who sang Friday on My Mind. A couple of years back, I was working down at Murwillumbah, and saw that he was playing a gig at some back of nowhere town. Wish I could have gone to see it. Wonder if he still likes a drink:eek:
