Looking for Plan B, anyone seen it?

Plan A: Go through the corridor, playing on at all opportunities, moving the ball by hand. Opposition clogs up the corridor forcing turnovers and hits you on the rebound using their key forwards.
Plan B: Repeat Plan A.
Plan C: Repeat Plan B.

Now the competition knows how to play us and when we break through we blow out the score and win...BUT...when it doesnt go our way we just continue with the same thing, trying and trying and grinding and grinding. Sometimes we grind through but it still doesnt look like we have another plan.

I am aware that injuries, form, two years of being the hunted, etc are contributing factors but we just dont really seem to make any moves from the box.

  • Collingwood have showed moving the ball quickly down the wings is an option.
  • We showed tonight that sometimes being patient around the arc does pay off.
  • Perhaps trying to turn ourselves into the counter-attacking team is an idea.

We will probably win again, and perhaps a more attacking team who isnt as hell bent on stopping us, rather than playing their gameplan (see Saints, possibly Pies). But I worry that we are too stubborn.

(I would love to win it all with Plan A as it is sexy as ****!!)

Well our backline is screwed I can tell you that now. Harley is looking forward to retirement up there I think. Just isn't up to it and Taylor is definately not fit.

Taylor obviously needs fitness but he did well I thought.

Byrnes effort was good.

Varcoe showed signs before coming off for the night.

Ablett 44 disposals, shutup critics.

Hawkins presented but failed.

Mooney improved as the game went on.

Selwood good.

Bartel good.

Mumford good.

Blake... really not sure.

Stevie J... not sure either.

Good to have Scarlett back, and I'll bet Gillies was happy having him and Taylor in.

I think Blake at least tried to do what the coaches asked. He had a shot for goal, took a couple of grabs and tried to link up in the middle. He was spent by the end but wasnt the only one.

You would have to wonder with a game like that if Ottens is any chance at all. Players were buggered.

You are so wrong Scott.

I loved that first quarter, and hated the next 2.

Your simple comment to start a thread "Plan A: Go through the corridor, playing on at all opportunities, moving the ball by hand. Opposition clogs up the corridor forcing turnovers and hits you on the rebound using their key forwards."

Now it isn't as simple as that. It's handball to space - expect your team mate to be there, expect him to win it. Don't hesitate when kicking down the line (ala ablett always hesitates) it doesn't matter if it isn't a 100% probability, we'll back our players.

Over the past 12 months the cats just see a road block and go backwards. Over and over. And it happened in quarters 2 and 3 today.

If you want to keep watching that crap footy, knock yourself out.

The cats of 07 were all conquering. Go look at tapes, that comment you have used (a walls'ism' ) "playing on at all opportunities" isn't about taking a mark and playing on, it's about gathering the ball under pressure and moving ahead.

I'm glad they did it a bit, but I couldn't see the faith across the 22 as I saw in 07. And you need faith.

I thought we played the wings more than the corridor tonight.

That comment about seeing a roadblock and then turnaround, well when you see the entire opposition in your forward 50 what are you supposed to do?

Blake has improved so much since being in the vfl but still doesn't quite cut it. He tries to do stuff other than just tap out but still quite often he taps the ball if it goes nowhere he runs away instead of going back for it as a 2nd effort.

I agree when there is every player from both teams in our forward half of the field we don't have a choice but to go backwards and try to set something up which did work well on 1 occasion tonight. Being extra careful actually worked out for once :s

Blake set up many of our forays forward and looked as if he belongs to be in the team. Mummy looks tired. Could see Blake and West next week vs Dogs. Mummy a week off, Ottens more time in 2's. If he had converted, would have capped off a pretty good effort, and overall, he was a good contributor.
