What do you guys think of drafting Bachar Houli? He seems to be very talented. Has good disposal by foot, is reasonably quick and can play as an inside or outside midfielder. He's also a good long kick at goal on the run. Drafting players with really good disposal should be a priority as we have enough players who continually miss targets. Apparently he's quite a smart footballer which is another thing we lack as many of our players constantly make stupid decisions. As a bonus he may also give us some publicity due to his race/religion. I've only seen him at the championships but how has he been doing in the TAC cup?

In my opinion we should really look at this guy for our 17 and 19 picks.
What do you guys think of him?

I just looked on his clubs website. His stats in 12 games are:

5 marks per game
22 disopsals per game at 75% effectiveness
21 goals 13 behinds

As HBF would know there's plenty of info on him and emerging players on the phantom draft thread.
Looks to be quite a batch........but isn't there always. Ahhh the promise of what could be.

i saw him in the metro vs wa game, like the look of him. you would have to look at him with pick 19... reminds me (and many others) of adam yze

been pretty consistent at tac level too

I agree with the Yze comparison, however unlike Yze, he is injury prone. Speaking to a cousin of his, he will not go top 20 and could even be around till 35. According to his cousin, he's not expecting to go too highly (I think b/c of opinions of supposed experts) but he has been spoken to by some clubs, and I'm pretty sure Carlton was one of them. Wouldn't be dissapointed with pick 19 as I like what he did in the under 18's carnival.

yehh i think we should start an early pre season just for skills. Watching games like richmond and sydney i was embarrassed at the poor foot skills by our players. Houli looks like a great prospect, height and weight are factors

No higher than pick 35. Pick 19 is too high for him...There is too much of a chance he could become a wiggins, sporn, bannister never quite make it type.

Tend to agree. As I said above, had him in the 20's.

I had him 21 on my best available list. He had stress fractures in his back that caused him weight problems. Has lost masses of weight and I believe, unlike the majority, that he has the ability to eventually play mid-field.

I would take him at 35 if we already had 2 mids and a tall. Before that I'm not sure he's good value for us. I'd rather take a Jethro Calma-Holt later and pick up a smaller guy with speed who could play midifeld as well as a flank at 35.

He's actually Lebanese and a muslim so why don't you cut to the chase and call him a terrorist.
If he turns out like Mil Hanna (another great Lebanese player playing for the Blues), I'll be over the moon. Who gives a stuff if he is a muslim, or a wog, or whatever, the only thing that matters is: can he play footy?

I reckon he would be a great pick up at 17 or 19.

I don't want him at 17 or 19 because I think we have enough players who are that size and lack legspeed. I'd prefer Carlton to target players such as Connors/O'Brien/Schmidt who are said to have pace and talls such as Ben Reid/Everitt if they're available.

I think Houli has injury concerns as well and we need to hit a home run with every selection.

Oh!

And no Petterd!

Nothing, it's just an in joke. ;)

I don't think we'll draft at 17 or 19 and I've heard differing opinions on his legspeed.

I have more trust in those who have queried his speed than those who have said he has pace.

Petterd has good AFL pace, not Deledio or Judd express, but maybe Gilbee type pace, i think the person you are referring to was trying to make a point about how fast Thorp is for a KPP, rather than saying Petterd is slow. Petterd is pretty fast over the first few meters IMO.
