despite the purge, the salary cap, and the relentless search for a Ricciuto/Voss rolled into one, we have another problem.

depth - talls : we have 7 walk up starts in the squad'

Richo, Holland, staff, gas, AK, hall, otto

and then vardy and Homey....not enough back-up IMHO.

2 maybe three talls required ...as back-up....'just in case' players. not some 17 yo old ruckman that can't play for three years ; but guys with some experience who can keep us going. Cheap.

Ideas ?

redraft steinfort...late pick ?

Track down O'Farrell...

trade an unknown from Port.

Hille ? fevola...just hope they don't get injured...?

When Richo breaks down..maybe Fevola could go fwd...
kid is a strong mark ...good kick.

looks like McGhie (193) is worth a shot for the 3rd round pick...i've heard it said that if he wasn't a father/son...he'd go maybe top 30.

has meantioned this in another post however i believe we have nothing to lose than to draft dean talbot who is currently playing for coburg.
vardy is gone he,s got absoultely no value in keeping him on the list anymore.
why not draft talbot even tho he is 27ish but has shown that he is a very good defender.
use talbot as a backup until mcghie hopefully is ready.

as for redrafting steinfort i use to be a big fan of his however the lad just keeps getting injured.

cheers!

What about any of the following :

Brendan Fewster (out of favour at Dockers - might do a Bandy)
Ben Marsh (Biglands & Clarke in the way)
Clem Michael (apparently jusr retired, for what that's worth nowadays)
David Antoniwicz (dropped last year by the Eags - back in Vic?)

Any other names to throw around ....

Dean Talbot is as honest as any player in the land, but he just doesn't have enough talent to even play as a back up in the AFL.

He was at Geelong in his younger days, simply failed to measure up. If he couldn't make it at 21, he isn't going to be able to make it at 27.

BTW If you want a tall defender, how does Daniel Foster sound?

He's 20, 193cm and has played 11 senior games.
Has tremendous speed for a key defender (often plays off a wing). He is still two years away from totally understanding the game, but has all the talent in the world.

Phat's got a point .... plenty have blokes have dominated VFA/VFL in their mid-late 20's but haven't been seriously considered as AFL material ... Saadi Ghazi, Jack Aziz, etc...

That said, Talbot has been very impressive.

I'd like to see Richmond give Talbot a go. He would be cheap and we would not much to lose. It is possible players who fail when younger can offer more when they mature. Put him on a one year contract and see how he goes.
