Anyone want to list their worst offenders on the faux accent front?

I've found a few problems with the English trying a US accent, they seem to put a growly voice on when speaking in an attempt to make the 'arrrr' but it seems to stink up their whole effort.

Two actors I find particularly bad in this respect are Hugh Laurie and Rachael Weiss. In addition I flicked on the TV one night, a show called Medium was on, never seen it before and immediately noticed a male actor (the husband) pulling the same trick. I'd never seen, nor heard of him before and immediately thought "that guy's English." I pay a visit to imdb and sure enough he was.

In saying that, I couldn't fault Helena Bohnam Carter in Fight Club.

Going by the trailer for Body of Lies, Russell Crowe seems to have quite a stinker going in that.

Sean Connery hasn't even got his own accent right.

Melissa George's attempt at an American accent was pretty terrible in WAZ. The movie was great but I cringed whenever she spoke lol.

The actor that play Mohinder in Heroes cracked me up. The first 3 episodes of season 1 he had a distinct Indian accent, then smack bang overnight he sounds English.

Brad Pitt in Snatch

I'm not entirely sure if it's bad as such, because I'm not sure how that accent in supposed to sound, but it's just impossible to work out what the hell he's saying.

Nicole Kidman in The Peacemaker does a horrible Yank accent

Mark Addy from Full House can't hold his yank accent in Still Standing [I think that's the sitcom he's in]

One of the best is Craig Fergurson. You hear him on the Drew Carey show and he hides his Scottish accent so well.

Kevin Costner in Robin Hood:Prince Of Thieves. He just could not hold his accent in this film at all. It kept wildly fluctuating all the way through, making it a very difficult film to watch.

You are spot on about the accent, but the movie is bloody brilliant. Morgan Freeman, Christian Slater and Kevin Costner are all great in this movie. :thumbsu:

I think that was the point.

I've heard people accuse Phelpsy of doing a bad accent in that scene, before they realised it was him.

It's gotta be the 'Gute', Steve Guttenberg, in "Don’t Tell Her It’s Me". His New Zealand accent is something of legend.

any Get This fan would testify that the Gute wins hands down.
Surely that accent was just a pisstake though?

 I always thought Hugh Laurie did a rather good job at the American accent. There are plenty of (ignorant) Americans who don't even know he's English!

His accent is very good. Probably what puts people off is the over the top gravelly and dramatic voice. That red haired doofus from CSI or whatever who takes the sun glasses on and off is American and is similar, it is more a drama acting thing than anything.

It's not a TV or movie but in the video game TF2 the sniper character is Australian but the accent is the worst I've heard. It sounds like a bad English accent.

The Simpsons did a pretty poor accent in that Bart vs. Australia episode, especially when the judge says "hear ye hear ye, this sussion us now in order" and the kid on the "eeft eets an emergency then".

the Boston accent in The Departed is somewhat laughable

and while we're on the subject, one of the best accent jobs has gotta be Leo DiCaprio in Blood Diamond... his south african accent sounded just like that animal hunter guy Austin Stevens on animal planet

Which actor? Wahlberg and Damon had it dead on (but both are from Boston so you'd expect that).

Apparently his Australian accent sounds just like his Seth Efricahn one though.
