Roos forced into humiliating backdown over Scott comments

North Melbourne face the prospect of a massive AFL punishment over coach Brad Scott's umpiring bombshell.

"(Brad) Scott said after Friday night's loss to Hawthorn that umpires had told North players they did not pay high free kicks to Lindsay Thomas because he is a ducker.

The AFL investigated immediately and North now have apologised unreservedly, saying the comments did not come from any umpire.

Asked after the game if he thought Thomas was unfairly treated by the umpires, Scott replied: "I know he is, because the umpires told our players 'well he's a ducker, so we don't pay high free kicks to Lindsay'.

"They told our guys that," Scott said.

"That's clearly a pre-conceived idea."
