Bannister seemed to take his game to a new level in the VFL finals series.. looked strong, classy and very solid down back. I won't be surprised to see him play 15 or more games in the 1's in 2006, and kick on to a handy career at AFL level. But it is now or never. Sporn, Livo, Wiggins, Houlihan are in the same boat. I just have a hunch that it will be Bannister who steps up, which is a little surprising because he shows less natural ability than at least three of the other four.

He has some talent, but is inconsistent. All the signs of a good reserves player really.

His best chance of getting back into the Senior side is for him to find that tagging form he displayed in 2004. We were crying out for a tagger last year, yet other than Walker doing a few good "jobs" we couldn't find any one else to consistently perform that role.

good call.

he was outstanding in a defensive role in the final series. Could be a surprise packet this year.

There is no doubt Bannister plays his best football as a run-with player. His game on Judd at Optus Oval in 2004 demonstrated that. He definitely needs to be persevered with in this role, particularly given he has a bit of mongrel in him, an attribute that all good taggers should have.

If given a game in the seniors, would prefer to see him play as a sweeping half-back, pinch hitting at CHB like a Craig Bolton-type.

Yeah...I think given his height, speed and mark he might make a good back flanker or tall back pocket. Following a leading forward requires less reactions and decision making skills than being a good offensive tagger, I figure.

I rate him very highly as an offensive tagger ...I well remember the job he did on Buckley a while back ..he out muscled outmarked and generally made Buckley a non factor on the day ...was delightful to behold :D

I have seen it all now!

I think I'm gonna start a "Ban Bannister" campaign... He's without a shadow of a doubt the worst player on our list!

Can't say I agree with you Verbs. If I was to delist a player tomorrow Sporn would be first followed by Wiggins and perhaps Davies, then Bryan...

i didn't know prendergast was already de-listed

Prendergast is the worst, no skills, no awareness and clumsy.
bibi01 i agree with you.

Who is this Bannister bloke anyway?

Is he related to Jordan?

I hope he is talented because the Jordan Bannister we have is filling in time in 2006 and waiting for delisting.

Cause he is a nice bloke who give 120% on and off the field.

agreed. Same for Prenda,Wiggins, Livo and a few others. Work hard at training and have a great attitude but just cant take the next step and become good AFL players.
Sporn is another 1. They do all the work and prepare as well as anybody.
I would love to see some of them improve.

When you see a player like Bentick come on and you know how hard he works it is fantastic to see.

He looks set for a big year and he is built like the proverbial brick s**thouse now.

Prendergast for obvious reasons.Sporn, too skinny, very few tricks and Bannister is frustrating because he has size and pace but cant read the play well enough to step up,

Thank you, exactly my point! :thumbsu:

I do take back what I said about Bannister being the worst player at Carlton though... He is the worst player in the AFL!

I dont know if its because of our s.hithouse last 4 years but its a disgrace to the mighty Carlton Football Club when such a mediocre player is considered half decent by a number of supporters... Jordan Bannister is Mark Athorn circa 2005!

this mantle has to go to Luke Livingston. the most overrated hack we have ever produced.

Bannister isn't the worst player on our list, I think Prendergast and Wiggins are ahead of him there with Sporn just behind him. Would have liked all four off our list this year but we weren't able to do so, next year hopefully all are gone and we can get plenty of kids through a good draft in 2006.

kind of agree with you paddy but i am hopeful the likes of wiggins and sporn can show something in 2006. it was only 12mths ago that most on this board pencilled sporn in as a permanent member of our team and said he would be 200game player for us. Maybe its wishful thinking on my behalf but i reckon wiggins and sporn could have breakthrough years in 2006.
