All well & good. I'm not 'incorrect'.

I said I worked & visited a lot of areas in both cities. The people I talked to were much more footy/sports orientated in Melbourne, far less so in Sydney. I would argue the Melbourne psyche was more self conscious about their city than Sydney people. I'm not commenting on the chattering classes & what they put on the media.

Please don't make me laugh about the attractiveness of Melbourne. Yes Its a great place to visit, especially if you like footy or cricket. But Melbourne is generally very plain & flat.

Sydney is a far better place for its attractive features. The wide suburbs of either arent particularly nice. But Sydney is fantastic around the City & harbour areas & along the coastal suburbs if travelling up to Newcastle or down to Wollongong, or out to the Blue Mountains. Its brilliant for a holiday.

I wouldnt live in Sydney again as its crowded out a lot since my time in the place. If it wasnt for family & so much footy I wouldnt bother with Melbourne at all.
Everywhere has its pluses & minuses. Sydney has many more pluses than Melbourne.
again qft.

As a sydney person, I dont compare my city to melbourne.

Most comparisons I do are between regions of sydney and the larger sydney basin. Real Estate type comparisons.

If you want to compare sydney to something, compare it to other cities that are the most expensive / largest city in that given nation.

I have also lived in Sydney and Melbourne and TBH found neither particularly jealous of each other, Sydney though has to be the best harbour in the world, being in the Navy I would wake up to views people pay millions for each day st Garden Island.

There is no doubt though in my mind that at a Football V RL level Sydney definitely carrys a huge chip.

why do you think that is?

why do you think that is?

Insecurity, also has something to do with fued with RU, they have a seige mentality, they constantly think they are always under threat.

From the wealthy, from RU, from soccer, the media, the AFL and so on and so forth.

The world city rankings put Sydney in the second level or Alpha plus band. Melbourne is in the 4th level as an Alpha minus city.
Sydney is clearly more of a global city that Melbourne.
I think I follow that ;)

I think this should not be underestimated.

This whole thread is just a trolling rugby league thread.

That's weird because one of the initial Barassi lines was drawn up and detailed by a RL identity in the Riverina, it would be earlier in this thread.

He was so detailed he actually went through 50 towns or so around the area detailing their Footy and RL strength and weaknesses.

If anyone is trolling it appears to be you.

If the initial barassi lines were detailed and had some in depth analysis all the power to them.

This thread, however is high on just dumping on rugby league at every turn with the occasional wait a second post from me and a few others.

I don't think that is the case at all, we are all friends here, perhaps you are a bit emotional.

Lol wait a second post?

Your posts are exactly the same as the AFL nutters but for league.

Off the high horse.

zah, I am not on a horse let alone a high one.

My posts arent dumping on AFL, primarily they are defending rugby league.

If you want a league nutter, I am pretty sure the link to the exact thread on a different site is posted on here. If the thread had more balanced responses I would obviously feel far less compelled to respond.

For the record, I think there are plenty of good fans of both codes. I dont mean it to be a personal thing at all.

And there are plenty of people like me, who have a code of choice (due to the team they support) then follow a whole host of different sports depending on what they are up to.

Well, that's not true. I think you should be careful not to overestimate. Probably pays to remember where you are an err on the side of respect.

At least the people saying things you don't like about RL are doing it on a football forum

Well i had a look over about the last 5/6 pages and i really couldn't find any posts dumping on RL.

Not sure what this bloke is on about TBH.

A couple of weird claims have been made about AFL Canberra spending more on juniors than all other sports combined which obviously is meant to be some sort of back handed compliment that the AFL is buying juniors, which sounds typical LU stuff, but no nasty slurs against RL.

Dont forget peoples in parra threatening people who wear afl gear, the horror THE HORROR!!

Yeah, that's what this guy needs. Encouragement

If I can walk around mt druitt and no one gives a shit I'm in Tigers gear, I think we can dismiss the line of living in fear in sydneys west if you wear afl clobber

And you are ++++ stirring in it up to your neck Mate!So heres something for you to choke on your beer.

I believe the both the rugby codes have bleak futures both here and abroad due the massive impact that political correctness and the rise of feminism is having on all sports particularly violent ones
Women by and large are not into violent brutal sports and as they are the ones who control what little johnny does and have a massive input to what they play or dont play and will steer the little darlings to play something a lot softer
The other problem we all know but dare not speak of is the dominance of the Islanders at junior and for that matter at senior Rugby/RL levels and this is not about being racist in any its just noting the facts and as the % of non Islander kids drops away so do many good players get lost to other competing sports right across the board.

I think in particular the rise and influence of feminism across all of society will have a detrimental effect on what many would regard as "manly" sports and its a freight train that aint stopping any time soon to take on any passengers.

The AFL have sniffed the winds of change weather rightly or wrongly and are using any chance to show how much they love and need female imput - who would have though the there would be female field umpire at the highest AFL level starting from this weekend and yes she can bounce the ball as good as a man.

Yep, and the claim came from the one guy in this thread doing anything remotely like "trolling rugby league". I'm pretty sure nobody validated that claim.

Noone supported him??

Thats the big difference between Sydney and Melbourne I doubt if any Storm supporters would have been abused by AFL fans in Melbourne for just wearing their clubs jumpers
The RL types seem to be scared of and aboslutely hate Australian Football with a passion and thats why I like to point out things like last nights pathetic crowd of 8100 at ANZ and remind them which is the biggest national game of all in Aussie and it aint RL.
Yep dont be cowered by by the numbskulls and keep wearing the colours This is one reason I buy a GWS membership every year to help support them as I know I would be hard to follow them in western Sydney
It seems like to me New South Wales is actively hating against Aussie rules calling it GayFL while Victorians are just indifferent about rugby league.
Really?
Was in Sydney a few weeks ago for work and copped a barrage of insults from cab drivers to clients regarding the weather (while it was raining NON STOP for 4 days) Gay AFL, what is there to do down there, Mexicans etc. etc.

Noone supported him??

I been going to Sydney for many decades for business and holidays in fact I had my honeymoon there and they do have a lot different attitude to Melbourne people and have a genuine chip on their shoulder about Melbourne /Victoria and of course AFL football.

I dont know how many times I have been asked "how do you put up with the shit weather in Melbourne" from people in all walks of life and from people who have never been to Melbourne. Its a big sign of insecurity IMHO and esp now that on all measures economically Melbourne is booming with the CBD having more construction than at anytime in Melbourne's history and Melbourne is catching up to Sydney fast on the population front as well.

I was in the CBD yesterday on a day off and was amazed at the number of tourists around and how much more busy and vibrant the city is now than it used to be only a few years back and that was on a terrible day weather wise.

Rugby league at grassroots would be well behind Union in Victoria. Union at least has a number of schools and universities that play the game. Not sure what league has. Never met anyone in Victoria that plays league at an amateur level, but met plenty that have played Union.
whilst these statements might be true.

thought, they were worth posting as they are mostly just written to dump on league.

heres another one.

The only reason footy isn't as big in the main centres of NSW and QLD is the generational thing.

Most kids follow what their parents follow. If rugby league and football started fresh tomorrow with no history my belief is we wouldn't be even talking about a Barassi Line.

That entire piece of land that most of us call Australia would otherwise known as Barassi.

When I am on the receiving end of taunts from rugby league people when I am in Sydney, my most common response is to tell them they are brainwashed by their parents. They tend to shut up after that. Luckily for them.
This post whilst isnt necessarily hating on rugby league. It like many others is only posted to foster a certain perception.
