Why is Palmer not playing?
Why is he not playing midfield?
I have to say I'm finding all this very puzzling. I actually (for the first time) almost don't want to go to the game on Sunday. I think we will get pumped and I'm not sure I can watch.

Hinkley in? Just why... Why not try someone new like Mellington?
Selection time has never been so frustrating!

Disappointing that Barlow's not playing but it'll be good for him in the long run. It'd be good to play a full game of WAFL before coming in.

Unfortunately I wont be going due to an Exam Monday morning :p
Im honestly not excited for this game.
Palmer deserves a go in the midfield. He will go back to Easts, have another 35 touches and 4 goals, then back into the team as the Sub to come on late in the game on a half forward flank.

Meanwhile Crichton will touch the ball once for a turnover, and will keep his place despite his obvious spudness.

And Lol at Hinkley.

it is time to bet on the Dons. Time to LOAD up! Hinkley??? I am not sure what harves is up to but we cannot afford to lose this game!

Jeez, I just realised both Crichton and Clarke (and MJ of course) are still in the team and now we also have Hinkley. arghhhh

Great call, an inspired choice by Harvey. The return of Hinkley is right up there with that of Barlow, so expect the team to get up.

Hinkley will be the best sub we have had all year, finally someone will come on and actually inject some life into the contest. Hopefully this is the start of a run longer than one match, it's been a while since Hinkley has been given that chance.

The choice of who plays between Hinkley, Palmer and Mellington was hardly going to determine this weeks result.

It was all doom and gloom before last weeks game and we played 3Q of the best footy I've seen from us all season. We'll have effectively the same team this Sunday only we'll be at home against an inferior team.

Yeah, but is there any heat on those who are letting us down? Palmer wasn't responsible for the capitulation, yet he's forced out. No heat on Ibbotson/Johnson/etc. It's pathetic.

Palmer's not having a great season, but he works harder than most other players in our team. I just saw the last quarter of our game on Foxtel again, and Ibbotson's two panicky fumble efforts when Hawks players got near him in the last gave the Hawks a sniff. They never looked back.

Harvey is turning us back into a team of squibs.

I don't disagree that Ibbotson and Johnson should've been dropped. It's hardly surprising that they weren't though. MJ hasn't been dropped all f'n year.

A 3rd tall defender will be needed this week, even a horribly out of form MJ is our best option for that role. Our only option to be honest, Silvagni, Faulks and Houghton are all injured. Maybe a case could be made for Roberton...not sure. It would've been nice to see Bucovaz rewarded.

Harvey rates Ibbotson for whatever reason. I think we've discussed Ibbotson being a 'nothing' player before so I'd hardly be upset if he was dropped, again Bucovaz could've come in for him also.

I don't know why Palmer is being dropped and/or used in the role he is. There is clearly more to it than on-field performance though. Sure it would've been nice for Mellington to debut, but again what difference would that change make?

None in the short term.

But it's becoming apparent what qualities we rate. This toughness we were supposed to build in the club doesn't exist at all. Guys who put their head over the ball are dropped while panicky squibs are made part of the leadership group.

There's no strategy to these selections. Next week, Hinkley will be dropped pretty much in spite of what he does (unless it's top five for the team). Barlow will probably come back, but if that doesn't have the impact expected, then what?

I agree.. im gonna jump on board early and stick it up everyone when he comes on as the best sub (assuming) we have had for the year :thumbsu:

The selections have baffled me all year Clay. I'm right there with you on Ibbotson and MJ squib wagon.

However, everyone is getting their knickers in a knot about this weeks team and bagging the likes of Hinkley and Crichton as if they're inclusion will be our downfall. They won't be the difference between us winning or losing on the weekend.

Will this be Hinkley's last chance to impress as the super-sub replacing the seemingly irreplacable mesiah that is Michael Barlow?

This reporter thinks so

He'll need 5-10 possesions at at least 80% DE and a goal or two

Pearce is one I really like in the team - his average of 2 goals a game in 2011 is set to increas this weekend to 2.5 (6 goals/3 games = avg. 2 goals per game; 2.5 x 4 games = 10 goals; 10 goals - 6 goals = 4 goals)

Clancee to get 4 :)

I would certainly rather Roberton as a third tall than MJ. He has not had much of run this year either, mostly as a sub and that is not his position to shine either.

I pride myself in finding some sort of logic and reasoning behind things even if I don't agree with them, but I simply can't work out why Clinkers is getting a go ahead of Palmer.

Please somebody think this through for me and give me a reason!!

I can think of only one thing and that is the Clinkers may be a 'good sub' where as Crichton, Palmer and others simply haven't worked in that role - but then why drop Palmer instead of Crichton. My goodness, what has Rhys done to Harvs, did he disembowel his dog or something?
