Like Palmer defenders.
Unlike Johnson though Palmer hasn't been given many chances, even less playing in his best position. If Palmer starts playing full-time midfield again and continues stinking it up then fair enough, but last week's game he was very poorly utilised and indeed has been the wole season. When he does go into the midfield though he almost always has an immediate impact, no question IMO.

Are you suggesting that E Shed is mediocre Riteo? Most of us regard him as an illustreous doyen of the board.

Nah I don't mind E-Shed, just don't agree with him on Johnson is all. I believe he's accepting mediocrity by constantly defending a player who is well down on form and lacking intensity.

Few people here being a bit harsh on Chrichton I reckon.

Apart from that shocking turnover last week I thought he was ok. Drilled a beautiful pass to Pav earlier who predictably missed the shot. I'm confident he'll turn out to be a good player for us.

Harvey is turning us back into a team of squibs.

That's right, because we were so tough under ...

Harvey is building this team, tuck your panties in.

Ibbotson's are worse. Couldn't defend a cake from a toddler. Yet Palmer is left on the bench for over three quarters, while Ibbo gets the Rioli match up.

You wanted Palmer to run with Cyril ?

Edit is your friend

Franklin, Bateman and Stratton out would be like us having Pav, Hill and McPharlin out. Only Sandilands and Barlow are as important to us of that lot you've listed.

Having watched more of the game, re the above, Crowley thrashed Hodge, Chrighton was doing a shutdown job on a guy who was carving up in the first. Ibbotson was classy in his ball use and MJ certainly wasn't at his worst.
I'm feeling a fair bit better about things. Lower, Griffin, Mz all playing roles, Duff, Broughts were carving through the middle.
Mundy barely touched it, Hill was flashing in and out, Fyfe was hurt and we were still competitive in the middle. I like Pearce as a forward, DeBoer was tackling everything, Clarke was getting amongst it.
Interesting times.

You really should watch the whole game before commenting on how ok we were. Hodge stepped up and played 1 class quarter, and buried us.

We've never been tough. We still aren't. That's my point. Do you see Ibbo putting his head over the ball and winning the contest? Do you see Johnson doing it?

Palmer has his flaws, but at least you know that when it's his turn to go he'll go.

You wanted Palmer to run with Cyril ?

No. How are people so dumb to surmise that's what I wanted? If people want to argue that Palmer gets excluded for lacking defensive efforts, then how does it follow that Ibbotson, who is far poorer at that side of the game, not only plays, but gets put on their most dangerous small forward?

I have a grip on reality. Hawks are struggling for key defenders, and Stratton is the only decent one they have. McPharlin is a better player, but Stratton missing changes everything structurally for them.

Similarly, the way I see it, we'd be screwed without Grover as a key defender this year, and most people didn't even have him in their best 22 in the preseason. Grover's not an A grader, but he's vital for our structure. Stratton's even more important for them.
