Midfielder Michael Barlow might play just one WAFL league match before he puts his hand up for a recall to AFL ranks with Fremantle.

Barlow confirmed today he will line up for Peel reserves on Saturday, 11 months after badly breaking his league playing for the Dockers.

However, his chances of playing in WAFL league ranks before pushing for a return to the top level are restricted because of a quirk in local league fixtures.

Should Barlow get through the reserves match the Dockers will be keen to play him in the Thunder's top side the following week. Peel play West Perth on June 11.

However, Peel then do not play for 21 days because of the general break for the WA-Queensland State match and a bye in round 14.
Fremantle could exercise the option of playing Barlow in another WAFL club's reserves team should they believe he needs more match action.

Barlow <3

Also, one thing i pointed out on another thread is how quickly Mzungu had an impact

In his first full game of AFL, he was our second highest user of the ball - he was at 67% DE which is pretty good - he laid a couple tackles and got a few clearances as well as a couple inside 50s

not bad for a fist gamer off a 2 month recovery period. here's hoping he sets the benchmark for returning players :)

Poor bugger made a couple of absolute howlers though, which blotted the copybook

1 reserves game.
1 league game.

Decent stats? Pulls up well?

Throw 'im in - is what Harves will do.

After the first 2 games - Freo have a reasonably soft run of 3 games - then the bye.

Provides a perfect platform to get Barlow a run (and build it up) either as the sub - or being subbed off.

Ive got no expectations on him to get back early, or change our season, but would be great to see him out on the G against the Dees. Even Garry Lyon would be singing his praises in front of the Dees faithful. Bring on rnd 12-16 or whenever he wants to come back.

So the optimist in me says that Micky picks up 24 possessions in playing just a half of footy in the reserves, the following week play for the firsts against West Perth, and when Peel beat them and register their 2nd win after a BOG from the great man. This earns him a call up against Melourne at the G...

Had a look at training today and Mick looked spot on,was the leader in the run throughs and worked really well, was remarked that he could step straight in to the 22 he looked that good, fingers crossed it all goes well
Roger looked primed as well

So if Micky is back in a few weeks and so is Roger, who makes way?

I don't think Palmer and Lower should go from the 22 to make way for MB. Could be the likes of Chricthon, Pearce and Pitt that will miss out.

For Roger to slot back into the ole HB could see Roberton miss out even push Broughton on the ball, a move to HF isn't out of the question for Dodgy Rodger.

Yeah I'd say Lower is fairly safe given his solid performances in the last couple of games. No point dropping Palmer back to the WAFL to 'find form' so soon either; it'd do more harm than good.

Crichton and Pearce would be much closer to the edge.

Still not sold on Roger being best 22 at this stage of his career, but I think he's a slight upgrade on Roberton and can free up Broughton to play a more offensive game - which can only be a good thing! :thumbsu:
