Basil interviews Leon Cameron

See, if he just mistakenly said the wrong team (Bulldogs) but actually meant to say GWS, it'd wouldn't even be that bad, but Basil clearly thought Leon Cameron was ACTUALLY the Western Bulldogs coach.

Anyone with an interest in AFL would know the difference, inexcusable and pretty incompetent if you ask me.

In general the whole AFL media is dumb, its dunner kruger on full display.

so callers who don't have a footy background have no idea about the game, and the commentators with a footy background have no idea about media, presentation and broadcasting.

thank god we at least have BT

Not sure if this has been posted but they went to the GWS coaching boxes for another interview mid-game later on and they could only get the assistant coach who gave them the cold shoulder lmao.

Unfortunately wont happen.
He's a close personal friend of the owner of channel 7.
Mr Stokes loves him, and has made this known in the past.

Ah that explains it. Never could work out how Bas keeps a job.

Not remotely photogenic, yet his error ridden body of work makes poor Bas look like G Clooney in comparison.

Nepotism explains Bas' career.

Basil seems to be obsessed with who the recruit of the year is. Yesterday, during the Cats and Pies, he kept talking about Dangerfield being the recruit of the year, but Treloar is up there with the recruits of the year.
One play, Treloar gets it and has a quick kick and in the space of about 3 seconds, Basil tries to tell us how Treloar is up there with Dangerfield as both the recruits of the year.
Then, today watching GWS, Stevie J is also one of the recruits of the year.

I love his in depth analysis.
Basil himself was himself one of the tv recruits if the year once. He's just in the wrong show. He should be on Benny Hill.

I'm glad that he has since put up an acknowledgement of it happening. I think the worst part at the time was that it just fell silent after that and no one corrected him nor did he correct himself, mean while every viewer was sitting at home wondering if that just happened. I stand to be corrected because I missed some parts but in everything I saw after that they never crossed to Cameron again and crossed to an assistant coach much later in the game. Wonder if he told them to not bother trying again.

I have seen Basil commentate swimming once and I think that is much more his speed especially the 1500m he can talk rubbish for 10 minutes and it won't really matter unlike the AFL where he is still describing the weather conditions and which ruck men are attending the first bounce when 5 goals have been kicked.

so callers who don't have a footy background have no idea about the game, and the commentators with a footy background have no idea about media, presentation and broadcasting.

thank god we at least have Hudson

Fixed that for you. BT? Get ****ed. Doesn't know who any of the players are until they've been in the system for 10 years.

First female AFL senior coach.

I happened to catch this in the broadcast and couldn't believe it. It's worse watching the replay, and you can hear the pause as he reads which team Leon is coach of.
It's always clear that Basil is a puppet spokesman lacking any genuine football knowledge.

On the odd occasion I actually watch a live 7 broadcast, mute the TV and play one of the radio commentaries instead. Better, but still limited choice.

People have brain farts from time to time. I think Basil lost his words rather than not actually knowing. Mistakes happen, just his was on national telly
