West Coast hit the switch big time last night. Was it a sign of a team prepared to dig in and do the little things like chase, tackle, hit targets etc or did Melbourne simply fold or both?

In my eyes I saw the boys go from waltzing around thinking its all too easy as 'flag favourites' (Shuey and Gaff were the two main offenders) to a hard nosed and brutal display off football… even Josh Hill chased and tackled!

Here's hoping that mindset is here to stay.

They certainly played us into form, though I take umbrage at your description of Shuey, was one of our hardest workers last week and managed 6 clearances despite a hard tag from Crowley against the Dockers.

Re-posted from the Positives/Negatives thread

You have to actually put things into perspective after a win like that though. Considering how much was it us playing good and how much was it melbourne playing bad?

Things to remember before everybody gets carried away.
Mark Jamar is in the worst form of his career. It's little wonder Cox could push forward, because Sinclair was holding his own. I don't think this means "Cox is back omg omg omg"

Apart from Gaff, none of our mids got tagged. Shueys v Trengrove was not a hard tag at all. And Kerr and Priddis were free all game.

Regarding Gaff, he only came good after half time. Lets not forget his tagger Bale, was off the ground for a large portion of the game with concussion.

Scooter wasn't tagging either. So when you think about it, both scooter AND shuey were released all game. You would have expected them to dominate no?

That's not me being negative about the win. Trust me, i really hope we can carry on playing like we did after half time next week against carlton, but it's a totally different level of opposition.

No homo :thumbsu:

I wouldn't single Hill out - I often see him giving a fair chase.

I wasn't overly happy with the game, was at the ground and I guess the stigma of the flat first half stuck around.
Surprised we had our highest ever score at the MCG, so obviously a lot to take away from it.

It's a nothing game really, we were expected to win by 100 and we did, so lets wait until next week to know whether we've taken a positive step or not.

Flat track bullies IMO. Not taking anything out of it other than it's great that JK looks in top form this season, and another game under the belt for Sinclair. Also good warm up for Kerr, who highlighted how much we missed his ground level clearance work

It spoke more about Melbourne than about us. I still think we're in a bit of strife until we get more players back. Either that or the mid-range players need to step up and take it to the next level.

Neither. You can only beat what is out on the field. It should be judged for what it is.

Melbourne dropped off. They worked very hard in the first half. That being said, our boys were working overtime early on, too. Had they kept that up all game, probably would have shaken them off for around a 5 goal win. They dropped off as soon as we nailed a few goals and then it was a rort from there.

The only things i took aware were Darlings chase and tackling along with his bag and JK kicking a bag and showing good hands.

JK looks to be in the best form of his career, equal to or better than 2011. Very pleasing.

Yeah and we come up against Freo and the Hawks and we folded up like deck chairs on the Titanic, not good enough from the January Premiership favourites really is it ? Why is our prep so far behind this season I ask ya ?

12.10 was a day game wasn`t last night ,fool ,you dig..

A little of both.

If you asked me if i would i be happy with a 94 point win before the game i would have said yes but due to the nature of the game it's a little more complicated.

Melbourne's attack on the ball in the first half worried our players, where we hurt ourselves time and time again with crappy disposal and decision making. Credit must be given to the Dee's though as they were playing above their current form. If it wasn't for a little Kerr and Kennedy brilliance they should have been leading at the main break.

However the second half was far more impressive. We were able to get some run going and all of a sudden the boys were playing on at every opportunity.

With 3 guys in our forward line that have kicked over 50 goals in a season that should be the main objective. Just keep getting it in there. Kennedy, LeCras, Darling, Cox and Hill will do the rest.

It's good to know the boys were able to find that, especially in the manner in which they did, regardless if it was Melbourne or not.

There is a lot of work to be done but with our run over the next month and guys like Waters, Mackenzie, Wellingham, Naitanui, & Rosa to come back hopefully we can run into the form we know we are capable of come the second half of the season.

I still think we're the shiznit.

The important thing is we are getting more game time to get our mojo back. Looking back, the start of our season sucked because we played 3 games over 5 weeks. Against tough opposition too. That win may be enough to get us going.

We'll know after the Carlton game.

I doubt it will let us know the beast has awoken. Carlton don't look like a finals side.

However a spluttering performance will let us know this was more about Melbourne than WC.

I only saw the first half before I had my own footy yesterday, needless to say I was underwhelmed. We are still very fumbly around contested footy - it was noticeable in the pre-season and just hasn't got better.

Important four weeks coming up, we could go 2-2 or we could go 4-0.

Could easily blow our top four chances if we're not careful. Going 3-4 after seven rounds, we'd be up against it.
