Hi Guys,

Just saw that Beau Dowler was cut from Hawthorns list, I reckon the MFC should give him a chance to train with the club over the pre season... couldn't hurt anyway...

He is 196cm and around 90kgs... okay he not a beast of a forward but chuck him on the roids lock him in the gym - could we potentially groom him to be our full forward?

Thoughts?

Yeah interesting one. I'd like to give him a chance on the rookie list.

The other one that might be of interest is Michael Still from the Bombers has been delisted. Given he is a KPF and was only drafted in 2008 he still has plenty of time on his side.

I was meaning to start a thread on the rookie list. We will have to replace at least 2 players and I think Messen is all but confirmed as finished. With the potential of turning over the entire list.

Healey - Struggled to get a game in the Casey seniors. Gone for mine
Hughes - Looked alright when given a shot but there are to many infront of him. Gone for mine
McKenzie - Main list
Meesen - Gone
Newton - Lord only knows. May have dodged a bullet. Again.
Spencer - Main list

Would like to see a way for us to move Martin on to the Rookie list, but if we don't would want to see us have a crack at Dowler as a mature Rookie.

I don't mind Dowler or Gamble. Both will find another club I reckon. Can't belive the Hawks cut 11 with where their guns are at..

Dowler's kicking is pretty good, particularly in front of goal.

His weakness is that he doesn't play in front when he's in a contested marking situation, but he's pretty good on the lead, and has great hands out in front.

Kicked 7 goals in his last two AFL games so is worth a shot.

I wouldn't be against rookie-ing Dowler, also would like to rookie Josh Smith who's been delisted from North.

Rookie or nothing. Not a good player.

I would prefer having a crack at Petersen. We all know he can play, and play well. With our strong indigenous culture, maybe, maybe . . . . . well, who knows ?

In 2010, a crack forward was delisted for going walkabout. He promptly escaped from Punt Road oval and Waverly Park to who knows where. Today, still wanted by AFL teams, he survives as a soldier of the forward line. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire... Carl Peterson.

totally agree with this, Biff, but pretty sure Peterson has moved on for 'personal reasons' like Hooper. I was surprised when i heard Peterson had been cut so drilled down a little and found that he wasn't in the right place to be at the top level. Shame though, because I thought he showed a bit this season. Can definitely take a mark and is fairly difficult to match up on.

Had work rate issues at times but that can be taught.. Anyway, a moot point, it would seem

Your kidding, Dowler is a spud. I've never watched Dowler and thought 'wow this guy might just have some talent' Nup...

But... Ryan Gamble has now been delisted from GFC, I say we make a show for him and he does have talent. I'm betting GOLD COAST will already be in talks.

Peterson, Gamble and Skipper are all capable of playing at the highest level, but Peterson and Gamble are players who we have plenty of and Skipper is no better an option going forward than putting games into Spencer, Gawn and Fitzpatrick IMO.

Worth a thread but not a pick.

We need a tall forward but Dowler has none of the attributes that would help us. He is soft, cant take a contested mark and his kicking is questionable.

Desperate but not that desperate. No thanks.:thumbsd::thumbsd:

you have Jack Watts and dowler confused.

Dowler is a leading forward, not a stay at home forward...

He is a victim of the forward line he was a part of, you are going to look fairly average compared to the dynamic duo of the AFL.

Dowler is actually very strong also, and can more then hold his own on the field.

The most recent example, round 22 2009. He kicked 4 goals and was close to BOG for the hawks that day, playing as a leading forward out of the square in the absence of Franklin.

His major downfall is that the hawks had no use for him as a KPF, and the oppotunities he got, he was playing as a 3rd forward.

He isnt the best at ground level, but that is a result of his car accident prior to being drafted.

He has the potential to be a 60 goal per year forward if playing in a role more suited to his attributes.

Just don't think he's committed at all though. Talent yes, character no.

Would have looked pretty good next to Hale I would have thought?

Surely your not serious? This Beau Dowler your talking about, if he had potential and talent to kick 60 goals a year, wouldnt you think Hawthorn would persue with him or at least keep him at the club.

Forwards that can kick 60 goals in a year:

Jon Brown
Pavlich
Nick Riewoldt
Jack Riewoldt
Barry Hall
---------------

Your mate Beau Dowler.

Your mate Beau Dowler.

You left out a 100 goal a year forward plus another 60 goal a year forward.

Dowler has the talent, but of the footballers going around he is one with very fragile confidence. At hawthorn we all saw from the last 2 games of 09 that Dowler has finally realised he belongs at this level. A rolled ankle that was worse than first thought in warm up to the first NAB cup game then completely derailed his season.

The further the season went on, the worse his confidence/performance had become, till he found himself at Box Hill Reserves.

He would be worthwhile as a punt on the rookie list only - not main list. But before I would do that I would sit him down with a panel, plus also the clubs sport pschologist to see where he is at, and potentially if the balance of the risk/reward is there what is the path way needed to get him to consistantly believe in himself enough to where he is of potential help.

Its funny, we have delisted two nbr 6 picks this year and last. One was rumoured to be to up himself, whilst the other is to introverted and confidence to fragile.

Very nice work, I even read it twice.
