Apparently stated on Ch10 news, but I havent seen anything up on it just yet. If true comes as a bit of a surprise, was really playing and important role for you guys this season and was in some good form.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. ;)

Wasn't having a go at bell, just surprised by it.

While it is very likely that this is what will unfold - I will wait until an official announcement before getting into the whys, hows, wherefors, and "bloody hell Belly - why sign a two year contract only one year ago if you weren't going to see it out?" scenarios... :thumbsd:

Does anyone know Bell's position regards the presidency of the AFLPA, as in has he recently been relected etc? Might indicate whether hes planning to stay in the football arena next year and that what was on the news was just someone adding to rumours.

Pretty sure he resigned from that role last year.

IF TRUEwill be missed especially as shown this year pushing forward to kick around 25 goals. He leaves after 270+ AFL games knowing that he was the first player to be signed for the dockers back in 1994/5 and not wanted at the end of the first season(1995) because he was deemed too slow- has had well and truly the last laugh!!

A legend of the club and maybe one day will return to coach the FFC.

Opportunity is marvellous thing, opens door for Byron, Foster, Dunn or Ibbotson to step up.

Saw Digby's bit in The Worst this morning. According to him Belly has retired - just waiting for the "official announcement" to come. There was no "it is believed he will retire" - this is what he wrote:

And the career of Fremantle champion midfielder and former dual Kangaroos premiership hero is over.
As expected, Bell has decided to end his career even though he is contracted for 2008.
It is unclear when the 31 year-old, who became eligible for life membership when he played his 150th game for Fremantle in the round 22 loss to Port Adelaide at AAMI stadium, will announce his decision publicly.

Just on a side note, he also said that Sumich is on the brink of joining Carlton, and that the weagles may go after Chris Bond as Worsfold's senior assistant, "sparking a battle with Fremantle, who have held discussions with their former captain."

I respect Belly alot, but IF he does retire, I can say Geraldton has alot more pull to him than me.

As said earlier, opportunity is a great thing, a great leaves and a youngun enters.

Good luck to the little champ. Probably could have played another year, but I don't know if he could have maintained his high standard
.

maybe / maybe not. BUt even if he couldn't have maintained the same standard as he played this year - imagine how good it would be to have Belly coming off the bench as an impact player. I think he should squeeze that last year out while he has a contract in place... but that's just me.
