Don't jump on me, but I would.
For one year (2009), as long as he spent all of 08 in rehab, i'd give him a shot.
I'm speechless.
As you yourself said, AH - it's not a problem that's limited to one club.
He's been playing footy since he was 17 and probably hasn't had anyone actually say "No" to him.
If he can be helped to overcome his problems and can get back in shape, i'd like to see a club, including ours, possibly give him a one-year lifeline.
I would look at him. The way he has been treated is a disgrace and if the Hawks showed some integrity to try and help the guy I would respect them more than if they did not.
Biggest media beat up of all time and Cuz is no worse than 10-15% of other players in the game.
I'd really love to know why you think the way he has been treated is a disgrace.
Can you imagine what would happen if he came to the Hawks and then did a bender? Our club would take a long time to recover from the humiliation. Also, we have a young list devloping into a good one. The last thing we need is an undisciplined 31 year old who has played 7 games in 2 years. Forget it.
He's never officially tested positive for using illicit drugs under the current system?
The AFL has said that there are players from other clubs who have tested positive under this system without attracting any of the attention that Ben has.
He's not alone in this, yet he's the scapegoat.

That's a joke.
Drunk in a public place (Crown Towers a couple of years back). Getting drunk is a crime for AFL footballers now? Wouldn't 99% be guilty then?
Ran away from a booze bus rather than take his medicine, leaving his then-girlfriend in the car to take the music (2006). Agreed, that was shocking - but it's a matter of drink driving, which again a number of players over the years have been guilty as well.
Has had and appear to continue to have connections with Perth's underground element, especially John Kizon. The Eagles were quick to send his pal Michael Gardiner packing to the Saints when they realised they could dispense with him, but pussy-footed around with Cousins. Unsubstantiated at this stage, Dixie. I'm not denying any of it's not true (because I honestly have no clue about all that).
Had a lovely trip to a Malibu rehab centre where no doubt he met a lot of famous people in the same situation (2007). The Eagles put him on a last chance contract under which if he stepped out of line by a millimetre, his career at the Eagles was finished, but did that wake him up? Obviously not. Do personal circumstances get taken into consideration? One of his best mates died a week and a half ago (straight after which Cousins took a drugs test and passed). Sure, it doesn't excuse him hitting the drugs, but it's certainly something to remember when we lambast him...

Provided an insincere apology (really only apologised that he was caught, not for what he has actually done) that made a mockery of himself and his club.
Then the events of a couple of days ago.
He has had multiple chances to get his life back on track, but he's frittered each and every one of them away, yet he is classed as a scapegoat.
Hasn't it now been verified that cousins didn't have a drug test following mainwarrings overdose as was (we now know incorrectly) reported.
